I believe carter Hutton wouldn't help the goalie problem and would only create a cap problem for the Blackhawks.

Zdeno Chara is a third line d now at his age, I don't think u need to pay 2.25 for just one year.

Toronto doesn't have the cap space for this. They'd pass.

I think Hutton to Chicago makes sense. They have a very, very young and inexperienced goalie group and Hutton is regarded as a great mentor and vet presence. Sabres would likely have to retain 50%, but I could see Chicago being interested so Delia/Subban don't get caved in both physically and mentally.

...Couldn't the same be said about just about every single veteran goaltender in the league? Hutton is a cap dump.

If the hawks wanted a veteran mentor they would've just resigned crawford. You can keep your cap dump unless you're gonna pay up for the hawks to take him off your hands

I probably should have said that the trades would really be to any team

You both have fair points. Hutton is a cap dump, he absolutely is. And they could have just kept Crow. But the difference is that Crawford is a $3.9M vet goalie whereas Hutton at 50% retained would be a $1.375M vet goalie who is gone after this year. That's likely more palatable to ownership on a team that's trying for a short retool. He's cheap, and realistically it would be a future considerations type trade, so it would cost nothing but cash.

My point is just that having Hutton would likely be better for the team and for Subban and Delia's development than just tossing them to the wolves. I don't know if the Hawks see either as long-term options in net, but having a combined 84 NHL starts between your two goalies seems concerning to me.

I guess if they're trying to tank for Owen Power then yeah Hutton would be a great option. You've just changed my mind lol. And you tell subban and delia "see how Hutton is playing? Never do any of that."

It may well be better for their development, but you likely lose one or the other on waivers if you take Hutton, and it’s a dice roll whether he’d be better than either than them or not.
