With the contract he's on and Tampa's cap trouble combined with his production I'm seeing MacKinnon or Tampa declines.

There’s no way to predict that. Point is one of the NHLs best players.

Cool your jets bro. Point is one for the best players in the league and has improved every time he's stepped on the ice. Even if Kaprizov is as good as Point is now in 2 years (big if) Point is going to be even better.

Chris Kunitz has an olympic gold medal and McDavid doesnt. I'm not seeing your argument.

Cool. As long as we're mentioning things that don't add relevance to the discussion, wombat's have cubed poop.

**** that.... I'd rather wait until next year then offersheet Point.

Keep Kaprizov and Boldy for our own future scoring production. Also giving us the latitude to move Dumba for picks, prospects while not having to retain.

A future top six with two scoring lines with Point and Fiala on the 1st line, and Rossi and Kaprizov on the 2nd would be utterly lethal.

A solid bottom six, reliable defense coupled with average goaltending would be every bit the contender Tampa is now.

I'm just saying. You never know, Point might consider signing it.

Point's QO is $9M. In order for TB to keep his rights they're offering that much. In order for MIN to pry the guy out of the best team in the league, you're looking at a 4 firsts compensation at the minimum. Talking about McDavid money. Not gonna happen.

I was aware of that when I posted it. I was kinda, for the most part, being sarcastic. If anything it'd likely take a $10M+ offersheet from the Wild for Point to even consider it, given that state taxes would be involved. Additionally, one of Parise or Zuccarello would have to be moved in order to clear up enough cap space for us to resign our bottom six players after handing out contracts to both Fiala and Kaprizov as well. So it's already pretty unlikely.

The mental gymnastics required for an offer sheet of Point, even if we technically have the cap space for it, is pretty high. Which is to my underlying subtle point, I would rather offersheet Point, deal with all that headache and future cap and draft capital misery than do this proposed trade.

But in my fantasy headspace where we never signed Zuccarello to that stupid contract, offersheeting Point might not be so unreasonable.

To be fair, in my opinion, I actually do think Point is deserving of such a contract. He really is that good, as far as I'm concerned.

I don't see TB even considering trading Point, so the trade is dead before it even starts. They'll have the money to re-sign him (Palat's $5.3m comes off the books at the same time).

I wouldn't do it from the Wild's perspective. It gives them a 1C, but sacrifices the 2 wings he'd be playing with. It turns MN into a 1 line team with a bunch of meh behind it. 1 line teams don't work in today's NHL (BUF/EDM over the years).
