Trade Nylander

Created by: PhillyDip123
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 2, 2020
Published: Dec. 2, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Mmkay hear me out- Listening to the SDP I was just curious what this team would look like without the most moveable contract of the big 4. I friggin’ love Nylander but Burkey might be on to something. Reinforcing the RD and making it every bit as strong as our left side opens up opportunities for younger (sub 1,000,000) players on the wing, or talent from Europe. Also thinking any value/term discrepancies for Ellis are met with Nylander’s contract being more than half paid off already.

I know Nylander is the one who’s providing more value than his contract, but the cap implications of Tavares, Matthews, and Marner is going to affect the team’s composition eventually.

but the habs let in more goals

also why won't andersen be better either? we haven't had a qualified backup for him until now

also, the leafs top 6 is so good that it doesn't matter what montreal rolls out on their bottom 2 lines lmao. The leafs top 6 scored more goals than gallagher, tatar, domi, armia, lehonen, suzuki, danault, cousins, weal, drouin, kotkaniemi, and thomspon combined. If hyman was on montreal last season he's probably their leading scorer lmao. the leafs have such absurd scoring (1 50-60 goal guy, a 40-50 goal guy, a 30-40 goal guy and a playmaker who will set them all up and prob hit 100 points)

thornton, vesey, simmonds, spezza, barabanov, and kerfoot will likely outplay the hell out of montreal's bottom 6 this year, they are all still good players

You think the Leafs have a chance of competing the Habs? Absolutely not. Our top two lines are better than the Habs and we still lost the three games we faced them. With the Habs improving on all parts of their team, we will be lucky to score on them. Maybe step aside from your Leafs bias and look at it from another teams view. As I started doing so, I noticed how bad the Leafs actually are.

Simmonds is a Clifford replacement, so the idea of being "tougher" is incorrect. Vesey is a Buffalo and Ranger reject, Spezza is old, and Barabanov is someone we don't know, automatically factoring him out of the equation

Oh Yeah! Because he did a GREAT job at building a cup team during our GLORY DAYS of 2008-2013!

let's listen to brian burke's advice on how to build a successful leafs roster

Brian Burke is the Donald Trump of hockey.

vesey is a 15-20 goal scorer who brings size and competitiveness to the leafs bottom 6

clifford played like 4 minutes a night and was a ghost. spezza had more fights/hits than clifford did in the playoffs. Simmonds is a heart and soul player who can actually play hockey too

the games we lost to the habs were 6-5 and 5-2 with hutchinson in net. the closest game 2-1 OT we had campbell in net and rielly, johnsson, and mikheyev were out injured

with a healthy lineup we smoke the habs lol, when we were healthy we beat them 4-2 in the return to play

Every single loss was on a back to back...

Leafs will take the Habs to the woodshed. Montreal is certainly an improved team this year but so are the leafs.

Vesey is a 6"3' player, over 200 pounds, and plays like he is 5"9'. He has a small game

idk man, he's huge and he's a career 15+ goal scorer and he's got something to prove

also, of note, he was a +12 on a hot trash sabres team. the only guy with a higher +/- was brandon montour. usually plus minus is irrelevant cause it's a team stat, but for a guy to be a +12 on a team with the 7th worst goal differential in the league is impressive. the only guys not negative (with a decent amount of GP) were montour, larsson (excellent defensive C), eichel, scandella, and vesey

he will be a solid and super underrated addition for us. He'll easily replace kappy's offence and maybe be a little more consistent as well

He is not a type of player that would make you a contender. Power forwards in Josh Anderson and Blake Coleman do help to strengthen your team. I was quite jealous the Habs traded for him.

While the Leafs are relying on Vesey and his small game, the Habs picked up playoff performers.

vesey was pretty good in the playoffs when he played 12 games in 16-17

he put up as many points in one 12gp run as anderson did across 3 seperate years

trade everyone bring in 4thline toughness done

Burke needs to realize his philosophy is flawed and look what happened with every team hes made, Toronto, Vancouver and so on all didnt do much in the playoffs, heck in some occasions he made them worse.

If it wasnt for him Seguin and Hamilton would have been leafs.

was tuukka rask in the brian burke era, I keep forgettin? Anyway, if so, tuukka rask would also have been a leaf

no, but he did a worse thing with the biggs trade

So basically Burke traded a 1st and a 2nd to move up to draft biggs and what did those 2 picks become (Rakell and Gibson) So wheres biggs now. In the EIHL

This is why Burke cant be trusted.

He costed the leafs

Seguin
Hamilton
Gibson
Rakell
