Initial Creation Date: Dec. 3, 2020
Published: Dec. 3, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Staple seems to think that brassard will be back with the Isles - he’s a decent middle 6 wing, but it’s just an excuse for Lou/trotz to bury koivula/bellows/wahlstrom in the minors. Honestly I wouldn’t mind seeing isles prospects request trades - their fates have already been determined. Even if they play well enough to earn a roster spot in camp, they’ll still be buried in BPT.

Staple on Aho:

“He could be the 7th Dman this year but after two years without getting a shot in a game, I’d be surprised if they feel he’s anything more than that. A very good player whose game doesn’t seem to be a fit with what the coach wants, at least so far”

Obviously trotz is a good coach, but i would get rid of him in a heartbeat. It’s better long term for the team IMO - the only way the team can improve is by playing young players and trotz doesn’t seem to want to do that if they don’t have the skillset of a bottom 6 grinder.

I'd be happy to bring back Brassard. He has proven versatility and helped on the power play. If he sucks, waive him and call up Wahlstrom. Pretty low risk.

The idea itself isn’t bad, but no matter how bad Brassard plays, the isles wouldn’t waive him. That’s the problem

Ugh Lou is so frustrating. I wouldn’t get rid of Trotz for a while tho

We've seen a high profile Isles prospect request a trade before...it didn't go over very well...

I don't agree. They waived Ladd, we didn't expect that. They waived Kuhnhackl at one point and we know they liked him.

You've been very hard on Lou and Trotz. They're doing a very good job.

If Dobson spends half the season in the press box again, I swear to god...

Niederreiter has been a high end 2nd liner for most of his career and one of the best defensive forwards. The trade was awful

More Lou than Trotz. The Toews trade has left such a bitter taste in my mouth (and I feel he could’ve done much better on the Pulock contract.) I also don’t like the handling of prospects. The only rookie I expect to see full time this year is Dobson, which don’t get me wrong he’s awesome, but I’d like to see Wahlstrom this year. The team could use his shot. I also think Aho is a solid piece and I’d like to see him get playing time. I’ve had my gripes with Trotz, but I definitely can’t deny the turnaround he did on team defense when he first came here is nothing short of astounding

Hahaha, I was thinking Ho-Sang, since that was during Lou's tenure.

I feel like Nino takes a lot of crap here though...he's a bit overpaid, and the offence hasn't been there, but he's actually an analytic darling.

I think trotz is slightly worse when it comes to young players. Just look at how many young players he’s had problems with since he started coaching.

Trade was bad but it happened a while back. And in the end I’d rather Clutter than Victor Rask lol

The reason why he wanted a trade is because they buried him in the 4th line with reasoner and pandolfo - 1 pt in 54 games. Seems like the isles haven’t changed much in how they handle young players

The isles agreed to terms with Karl Alzner on a 2 year 6 mill dollar contract

Trotz: “I thought Dobson had a great camp - the smarts , the instincts - it’s all there. Big part of our future, but he needs to learn how to play the right way.”

Lou : “ im certainly pleased with Dobsons camp. He’s close - will start in Bridgeport”

For sure, I’m just saying nothing has changed. Trotz is no different than capuano in how he handles young players.

That trade wasn't great value on paper but Clutterbuck brought us a lot of good hockey. He's #2 on the BFLIH and I think if that line gets broken up he can jump up to the third and play with Pageau. They looked nice together. Also Nino's not that good defensively I don't think. I've never heard anyone talk about him that way.

I'm not happy about the Toews trade or the Pulock contract either, although I've come to accept both. Toews had to be done with the amount of money he was going to get, I wouldn't have given him as much as he got with Colorado and arbitration for a guy like him when we're in the cap situation we're in is very scary. I wish we did something like Toews for DeBrusk but let's see what Lou does with those picks first. Pulock's contract was more pandemic-related than Lou related in my opinion. I think we'll be able to re-sign him.

I agree that Dobson should be getting full minutes this year and I'd like to see Wahlstrom too. Lou said he was obviously very upset with trading Toews, but he felt Dobson can adequately take his place. That's pretty high praise for a 20-year old. Dobson will be on the team out of camp, I don't think Wahlstrom will but I see him as a mid-season call up that doesn't go back down.

Lol I forgot about Ho-Sang tbh. Ho-Sang has no value or leverage, he shouldn't have demanded a trade like he did. I'm sure Lou tried to trade him and no one was interested. Regarding Nino, it sounded like the coaching staff hated his attitude. I'm sure he's grown up as a person since then, but I'm really not overly upset about him being gone.

He won't, and there was nothing wrong with him spending time in the press box this season either. He ended up playing 34 games. It wasn't like that season we had Matt Donovan and he played 12 games (which I know is different cause Donovan was trash, but still).

Yes hes a good coach and he’s can get the most out of players with limited skill , great motivator and always make the right in game adjustments - but the way he handles young players is a real problem. Drafting and developing is the key to success and he’s more concerned with talking up kuhnhackl and how he important he is to the team.

Clutterbuck is a decent 4th liner - the only reason that line is the “B4LIH” is because cizikas is an elite 3C. Without him, Martin and clutterbuck are pretty much useless.

At the end of the day, Lou and trotz think the same way.

Some other funny things for staples article:

Toews would’ve been traded regardless because pelech needs a raise next season, but also it’s possible isles can make parise work lmao. Love that logic.

On grant Hutton
They like him. Because he’s older than a lot of the Ahlers and carries himself like a pro 😂
