I'd rather save the money on holl and spend the extra million on Nylander for two extra years than have boeser and murphy

Not to mention that we can’t afford Boeser is 2 years.

Also... interesting stat sheet on Holl.

Still taking Murphy over Holl. He was a liability and looked out of place when Muzzin was injured during the playoffs.

i stg man, all the whining that we need a big RD and 6'4" right shot 28 year old justin holl walks onto the team for effectively his first full NHL season, plays 18:30 a night against top competition and posts 18 points and is a +13, proving to be an excellent puck mover and is a solid penalty killer and signs a cheap 2x3 deal, and all leafs fans do is trade him

That's what Leafs fans like to do. Has a player had one bad season? Scratch that, bad couple of games? Trade him.

He would be at most a third pairing defensemen on any contending team such as the VGK, AVS, and Lightning. It's quite sad how any 6th defenseman for any contending team will be part of the Leafs top four. Why can't we get a stabalized top four for once? I'm sick of it.

islanders had scott mayfield in their top 4. If you have good chemistry/partners for guys who maybe don't belong you can still make it work

the leafs have an excellent top 3 and the #4 spot is effectively open. Bogo, Dermott, Lehtonen, Holl, even fkn liljegren could grab that spot imo

Holl might become expendable in which case somebody will trade for him bc he's a very passable defencemen who, unlike most shutdown dmen, isn't atrocious at moving the puck

I'm sick of it!!!

The only solution is to make 4 ACGMs a day trading Nylander until the madness stops!!!

Aargh!!

I like boeser, but if you think Nylander is a frustrating player who’s invisible lots of nights, you will not like boeser

Rhis board is great
Holl plays bad without muzzin for like 10 gamea "he sucks, trade him for a paper clip!"
Doughty plays bad for 2+ years with meh partners "hes still elitr! He just needs a good partner!

Holl really isn’t that good. He’s a #5. He’s also your best natural RHD. Do you see the problem here?

"natural RD" doesn't mean anything though, 3 of the 4 finals teams basically had all LD. Good players are more important than players who shoot a certain way

and, again, there's very little evidence to show that Holl was bad this year. Maybe when he was away from muzzin he struggled, but so did the team. Andersen sucked, the offence sucked, there was a flu (maybe covid) ripping through the team, rielly/muzzin/ceci were out and the leafs were running an AHL defence group + barrie. most guys would've struggled under those circumstances too

Holl was basically asked to be the leafs entire shutdown pairing, and as a 4th d, that's a lot. Murphy couldnt do it any better, in fact probably worse with how poor his lateral mobility is

Holl is a fine number 4 defender. The problem here is that people think every team has 4 guys better than him when they dont. There are maybe 4 teams in the league with 4 better defenders than the leafs

I never said he sucked. I just said he’s a #5D and a guy like Murphy would definitely be an upgrade on him. He’s completely serviceable, but don’t paint him like a bonafide top 4 D because he’s not

I can easily think of more than 4 teams. The leafs top 4 is solid forsure, but it’s not top 5 in the league

VAN would rather keep Boeser. He is finally going to be 100% healthy like in his rookie season and also Pettersson and him are best friends.

in no order: minny, Nashville, pittsburgh, Columbus, VGK, argument for MTL too, etc...

they definitely aren't top 5.
