More moves have to be coming

Created by: NickC1988
Team: 2020-21 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 3, 2020
Published: Dec. 3, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
It makes sense, but it doesn't.

Obviously, Colliton and Bowman want to create more competition for roster spots and I actually understand that. Competition forces players to elevate their game in training camp and preseason, making them better.

With that in mind, how can they possibly ice a line up that makes sense? In this situation, the 3rd line is made up of newcomers and an inexperienced Nylander looking to find his game. It also sees Dach on the wing because he's too good for 3rd line minutes and Strome is too invisible on the 3rd line. Also, when has Bowman ever not spent to the cap? Death, taxes, and the Blackhawks are at the cap ceiling. For this reason, I still envision another trade or two once the season is situated, there's far too many guys trying to make the line up.

The Hawks might be a team that tries to take advantage of Tampa. And they desperately need a goalie.

I dont see the hawks making any moves till the deadline and it will be for the purpose of getting worse while stockpiling picks. This team has said they are rebuilding and if they can get the 2021 1OA pick thats a start and with the goaltending thats almost guaranteed.

I hope you're right. If this team drafted Owen Power and figured out the goaltending they'd be back to a contender in a year or 2.

What will probably happen though is delia or lankinen will prove to be a decent starter and they'll be a bubble team that just misses the playoffs. Hurting their chances at 1OA and slowing the rebuild.

I don't think people realize how many guys they have pushing for roster spots this season. Shaw is expected to be healthy, Kurashev, Hagel, and Suter are also looking for bottom 6 F spots. On the back end, Mitchell, Beaudin, and Kalynuk are looking to step in as well. It's clear there's a log jam of close to NHL caliber players.

If this was a rebuild Saad would've been moved for draft picks, not Zadorov.

They took Zadorov as Colorado needed to move Cap out and had no room for Zadorov. On top of that Chicago needed a replacement for Maatta.

“But what I don’t want it to mean is we’re trying to tear this team apart and trying to bring in a whole new group of players in the next year and a half,” Bowman told ESPN.

Anyone that has been paying attention to the hawks knows they've been doing a "soft rebuild" or "retool" (whatever you wanna call it) for about 3 seasons now. The only thing that has changed this offseason is that Bowman finally had to come out and say rebuild when toews gave him crap for trading his buddy crawford. But in that same open letter from Bowman, he says rebuild but then describes a retool. "a stockpile of emerging talent to complement our top players.” The hawks top players are still toews kane and Keith. It's not a rebuild until those 3 are gone or atleast until they're not all playing 20 minutes a night on the top lines.

i see there rebuild being similar to the rangers, draft carefully, keep some veterans, but also stockpile picks and young talent.
