      My thinking was:

NYI- They could lose De Haan anyways, this way it clears out an awful contract and gives them a good versatile top nine forward

ARI- They might lose Stone anyways and so leafs can have early negotiating rights we give a defenseman that we don't want to a team that loves Fancy Numbers (Marincin is one of best fancy numbers defenseman)

      C - Rielly
      A - Marner
A - Kadri? or maybe Matthews?

Leafs capitalize on their really good set up for the expansion draft.

I believe that's a bit of an overpayment for Stone in the trade and the signing. and an underpayment for Zaitsev. Bozak should not be exposed in the expansion draft imo because he has great chemistry with Marner and Jvr and provides center depth. I dont think signing Stone fixes our problem on D, we need a top-2 right hand d-man not another top-4 one. So, trying to sign Shattenkirk would be smart imo. As for Calvin De haan, we don't really need him on our third pair. We have Marincin, Valiev, Loov, Neilsen who can all fill that spot.

Stone is playing top minutes in ARI and is right handed. I think he's a no. 2/3 defenseman. De Haan is one of 5 defenseman who recorded over 200 hits and 250 blocked shots and would be an amazing no. 5 defenseman who can play more minutes in case of emergency.

      (http://www.hockey-reference.com/play-index/ppbp_finder.cgi?request=1&match=combined&year_min=2015&year_max=2016&season_start=1&season_end=-1&rookie=N&age_min=0&age_max=99&birth_country=&situation_id=ev&franch_id=&pos=D&handed=&c1stat=hits&c1comp=gt&c1val=200&c2stat=blocks&c2comp=gt&c2val=250&c3stat=&c3comp=gt&c3val=&c4stat=&c4comp=gt&c4val=&order_by=hits)

In regards to Shattenkirk: I think he's VERY overrated imo, and obviously I'm not a scout but he's the Blues 4th best defenseman (behind Piet, Bou and Parayko) and yes he can put up points on the PP but he's not much of an all round blueline. Not to mention I think he's going to cash in for too much.

I don't have much faith in Marincin, Valiev, or Loov becoming NHLers (however keep in mind I have these trades after this year so we can take time to truly asses). And as for Nielsen I think he'll be great too but he needs seasoning and by the time he's ready Gardiner's contract will be up and he can slide in there.

Trading an asset (although not a high one) for Stone seems to make no sense, since Stone is going to a UFA. And if Stone is gets signed by the Leafs as you suggest before expansion, they have to protect him in the draft.
Stone and UFAs plus all teams will likely hold off all UFA signings till the draft is over. You would think the Leafs are in a good position to sign Stone if they want....cap room, good position for him and the team, and hey maybe being Leaf now is gonna to be fun.
DeHaan. I admit I don't see him much. But what do shot blocks and hits really mean? Maybe when he's on the ice, his team doesn't have the puck. Unless he's an an significant improvement on Marincin, Dermott or Valiev, I would rather keep Komarov. And don't get so excited about Leipsic (you have him protected) as a fourth year pro if he's that NHL good, he'd be in the NHL now.

NYI playing De Haan with Hamonic. They won't be doing that deal. Cap dump or not they need way more for him imo.

Oh sorry, I checked dailyfaceoff.com and they had him on third pairing but they could be wrong, that's fair but I just think he would be a good defensemen and we could get a good bargain for him since NYI have expansion draft problems coming up
