Divisional Standings Predictions

Description
Extremely bored right now and I don't envision any roster changes coming for my Rangers anytime soon so I'm not making a roster with pointless trades. I'm doing this instead.

My gut is telling me the NHL will be forced to hold intradivisional playoffs this year, by the way. All 1st place teams would play all 4th place teams, whereas all 2nd place teams would play all 3rd place teams regardless of points.

LW - Canadian (WEST)
C - Pacific (WEST)
RW - Central (EAST)
D - Metro (EAST)
G - Calder Winner, because I'm a stubborn homer (and because I need a goaltender to publish this)

I know its easy to pick on the sharks after last season, but it will take the worst luck of any sports team ever to be worse than LA, Anahiem and Arizona.

Hes got the flames first? The biggest debate is Montreal over Edmonton which could happen if all of Montreals moves click and the defense is better. The other way could also easily happen, but theres no conclusion on it.

I think Toronto and Edmonton over Calgary and Montreal if everything clicks for every team

I have feeling ANA will be bottom, I think we will see a bit of improvement from LA, the Sharks roster is still ok and they shouldn’t be as bad as last year, and idk why everyone thinks AZ will get worse, they led the pacific at certain points last year and only fell off because Kuemper got injured, losing hall frankly shouldn’t hurt that much and I think Hayton will take a big step

Yeah I dont know, I actually like the Yotes but I just dont see improvements coming. I think they will be there with the sharks, a tier above LA and Anaheim.

I'd be shocked if MIN does anything with that center depth

the yotes also started failing off because they hall and hall is a cancer in the Lockroom, and they will get better without hall

Well uh... I don't really consider the city of Calgary to be in eastern Canada, but you do you

Yeah I'd be lying if I said I thought the Sharks would be bad last season. And this will definitely sound like a broken record, but San Jose's status quo goaltenders are just.. my apologies. That being said, I don't think any of the bottom 4 in this Pacific would even accumulate 80 points in an 82 game season so they're all pretty much interchangeable to me.

Well you can't be that smart you have Calgary at first and they finished below Edmonton, Toronto, and vancouver last season in that order. You also have Edmonton at 4th and they we're first last season out of the canadian teams and have improved. Toronto for sure 2nd I agree with that. But Vancouver 3rd and Calgary 4th is how I'd have it.

Ah. The classic "you're dumb because of your sports takes" guy and the recency bias guy. Not the best approach for convincing the jury on our debate.

I can see you at least get that rosters change, but teams overachieve and underachieve all the time my man. FYI, there was only a 4 point margin between the Oilers, Leafs, Jets, and Flames last season. I know the Montreal doesn't fit that narrative but in all honesty, they are the most improved team this offseason, in my eyes.

Your Oilers will definitely be just fine this upcoming season, but the biggest thing carrying them last year was their ridiculous power play, and it's so statistically improbably to not see any regression. Disagree about the Canucks, as Holtby is too big of a downgrade from Markstrom and the defence is ugly. Calgary at 4th can happen though. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the 1st place team in the Canada division has like 6 more points than the 4th place team.

Montreal was good last year and got really deep this offseason. They have one of the best goalies in the league and his backup starts on 3/4 of the teams in the league. Even if they have 2-3 season ending injuries this team is still top 4

I wouldn't be suprised if the Oilers PP got even better now that we added Barrie and McD and Drai keep getting better every season. Disagree about Holtby. Markstrom is good but I don't think Markstrom is the real deal. Not yet anyways and I could be wrong I just think his performance isn't going to stay as high as it was last year and I'd argue Vancouver's D is actually better with Schmidt.
