Offer Sheeting Cirelli 6 and a half mil for 5yrs and Swapping Arvie for Palmieri

Created by: CheechYou
Team: 2020-21 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 5, 2020
Published: Dec. 5, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Protections

F: cirelli forsberg duchene kunin
D: josi ellis ekholm fabbro
G: saros

Thought process is the NSH/NJD trade is this:

NJD:
If NJD get word that Palmieri will likely bounce next offseason, or simply will demand too much money, they'll be open to the idea of swapping out Palmieri for Arvie who's signed on for 3 more years. They'll have room to protect Arvie for the draft.

NSH:
NSH would want to keep Arvie but at the same time they'll likely protect 4D (above) and the 4 forwards listed (also above). Arvie seems like the odd man out. So they swap Arvie for Palmieri so they can have what'll likely be a decent chance of resigning Palmieri POST-expansion-draft instead of losing Arvie for nothing. If they lost Palmieri to FA, so be it, they would've lost Arvie anyways to SEA, but at least this way they'll stand a good chance at retaining Palmieri -- a similar top-6 RW like Arvie.

I disagree with the Arvi theory. In my opinion they would leave either Ekholm or Fabbro unprotected. I look at it like this....Arvi has been a rock solid 27-30 goal scorer and scoring has been a challenge for this team. While I like Fabbro and Ekholm.....the D factory is still ok as they have Davies and Carrier that can play. If Benning is a solid guy, he could be part of the future plans.

I don't disagree necessarily... I think you're right in the sense that there's at least a decent (if not likely) chance that what you says would happen. But the thought process here is that say NSH protects Arvie instead of Fabbro. Wouldn't it make some sense to retain both Fabbro and Palmieri (potentially, by having a good chance at resigning him) instead of protecting Arvie but almost assuredly losing Fabbro to the expansion draft?

No chance Arvidsson gets traded for a 30+ year old forward in need of a new contract that would likely be higher than Arvidsson's current contract.

Fat chance of Anthony Cirelli taking an offer sheet from anyone, there's already rumblings of being close to deal that would pay him $3.75 million over the next 2 or 3 seasons. He's already pretty much said that he wont sign one he wants to stay in Tampa.

I certainly wouldn't believe what a player, agent, coach or GM says in public. Of course Cirelli says he wants to stay in Tampa, but geez how could he not sign an offer sign at 6.5 X 5 from Nashville (as proposed in this post) instead of of a 3.75m one from Tampa.

How about just keeping Arvidsson and those picks and not make that offer sheet whatsoever. Would solve all of the issues created here as he could be protected with no issues.

Arvi > Duchene, Kunin, and maybe Cirelli
