Cherry picking

Byram will be better in the long run with his tool kit.
Ignoring cap flexibility.
Compher is very solid.
Covid $’s are very valuable in these times.
Willy won’t fetch a top 2 proven D but Byram will be one day. Willy is one dimensional on a good contract & the most logical to be moved. If Av’s had a 2nd I’d swap it in.

My logic is not many D could be had especially RHD. Bite the bullet a bit for long term gain & depth.

Compher could become a 3C in the future instead of old fogies & more wingers develop.

Difference between Byram and Sandin is not enough to downgrade from Nylander to Compher.
I4evrblue, Cujo_31, Sign_em_up000000 and 2 others liked this.

I’m not discounting Sandin but I am projecting Byram to be a #1 or an excellent #3. That sets up the D for a long long time if my gamble works out.

I hearya on the risk overall but considering all the facets I think it has a chance. Yes I can agree this won’t happen.

The Av’s with Toews can afford this & could sweeten a bit.

Leafs' would do a terrible job developing Byram anyway, so already established D is the only way for them to go.

Take Sandin out and maybe there's something to be discussed here

Byram is left shot left side defenseman. Just like Sandin. Him and Sandin are as close to each other as its possible. Willy one dimensional? In what universe? He is not getting moved. If its 1st with Compher Id bite.

Compher is solid. He is mid-6 player tho and mostly winger. Nylander is top line guy.

This is not even close.

Avs would be over the cap without shedding more salary.

And while I would love to have Nylander, I don't see Colorado moving Byram. That kid on his ELC is going to provide a really big advantage for the Avs in a year. I see the logic of getting Sandin back to cushion that blow, but I think it would have made more sense before the Saad acquisition.

Avs would decline due to the cap, and I'd hope they'd simply decline anyway.
