My take on their offseason and what Id do to end it

Team: 2020-21 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 6, 2020
Published: Dec. 6, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
What I like:
-not signing Markstrom to that contract, the last year or two will be painful
-not getting OEL. I like him, I really do, but VAN has their PP quarterback, so they have no need/use for OEL
-signing BH. He'll be perfect to split starts with Demko
-getting Schmidt for not much. He basically replaces Tanev on their PK

What I don't like:
-not keeping TT to the deal he signed in MTL. Even if it meant moving Virtanen, as TT will still be better than Virtanen in 5 years, IMO he's not getting much better than he currently is

What I'd do to end it: I believe they only lack one depth forward and one depth d-man. If they could get Hamonic and Kovalchuk they'd be instant contenders. Here's how I'd get there:

I'd probably just bite the bullet and keep Baertschi and Benn for one more year. I like the idea of signing Hamonic tho

Of course I do. I meant to say that in 5 years IMO TT will still be better than JV

VAN probably wants to hold onto Benn now since they lack depth on the backend. Baertschi can just be buried for another season.

Benning was very smart not to bury the team further by signing Marky,Tanev and Toffoli. The team is not in bad shape and can bury Louie and Sven or even Sutter or whoever to create cap space. Then there is Ferland. If he now sign Travis H i think we would have a good competitive team this year especially if some young guns like Hoglander and Pod and maybe Tryamkin jolevi etc... We are in pretty good shape and have options in my opinion.

i like what you did here. only thing i would say is to not sign those guys right away. VAN needs to know that they can be contenders for years to come, not signing FA's every year to boost their core. partner Rafferty with Edler and Juolevi with Myers, get Hoglander and Lind some minutes and see what happens. our prospects are tearing up the AHL and we need to see what they are capable of at the NHL level

given the flat cap I think there will be plenty of options to sign later in the season if things don't work out.

Are you refering to the TT who had 8 more points than JV?
TT who is 4 years older, plays 1st line and 1st PP got 8 more points then JV who was 3/4 line and 2nd PP?

oh ya, if GMJB chose TT over JV, not only should he have been fired, he should have been dumped in the bay, for a swim.
