He isnt a top defensive forward, he doesnt play against the elite competition. If he was going out and shutting down teams top lines, youde have an argument. But when hes shutting down the 3rd/4th lines for teams, i wouldnt really put those two talent levels in the same category. Like whos he gunna have better numbers against: bergeron, marchand, pastrnak or coyle, bjork, smith/ ritchie, kuraly, wagner. big big big difference in talent level.

so many things in theory never get replicated in actuality so saying foligno is a top 5 defender in hockey is an absolute joke when he doesnt face quality competition. Im not saying hes a bad player, hes a solid bottom 6 player. One of the best defensive bottom 6 players. but not one of the best in hockey.
