A Message to all Leaf Fans Hating on John Tavares

Description
Greatness is not all captured on a score sheet.

I am seeing an unprecedented amount of hate for the Toronto Maple Leafs captain, John Tavares.

You stuck up bunch of selfish losers are lucky to have that 1-2 punch down the middle. I can probably speak for Wild fans, Rangers fans, and pretty much anyone else looking for a good center. Do you know how much I, a flames fan, would love to have Tavares on my team?? his leadership qualities are amazing. The man has dignity, pride in his play, and a stupid amazing work ethic. You for YEARS have had a 3C as your 1C, and now you have 2 Bona-fide 1Cs.

Yet you arrogant leaf fans are throwing one away because he's "Not good enough" "On the decline" "Lazy" "Paid too much".

Yes, hes paid $11,000,000. But you get what you pay for, hes not just a scorer, hes a leader, and makes everyone around him better. Not once has Tavares been at the center of a controversy, not once has he been unhappy where hes played, not once has he complained about his linemates or coaches. Be grateful you leaf fans, that you have a player like John Tavares on your team.

Be thankful that you have an amazing center like Tavares, who makes those around him better, and scores while at it.

Honestly, from an outsider, You guys have something special in Tavares. Cherish him and what he brings to the team.

Respect your captain, leader, and hometown hero.

Cheers,

~ TheBetterTkachuk

I think the hate has more been directed at Dubas.

It's a good indicator of which Leaf fans not to listen to.

Tavares left money on the table in other teams to come here. I think people forget that sometimes. He wanted to play in Toronto.

$11 million is not a discount and a mistake for the Leafs to sign him to an overpayment.

he was offered $13,000,000 by san jose, and north of 11 by a few other teams.

definition of a discount bud.

The majority of us love him here, hometown superstar talent that finally wants to play here. Others (like the guy you quoted) have nothing better to do then bash players for no apparent reason.

It has been so long since the Leafs have had any real success, that fans will find anything to complain about. In this case, there is nothing to complain about. He is the best UFA signing they have signed in what feels like forever.

I don't think many Leaf fans actually hate Tavares. There's a vocal small amount of Leaf fans that hate Nylander and/or Marner.

Marner is the guy I would hate If I was a Leafs fan. Asking for that much out the gate when his team needed money was the most inexcusable.

Nylander= Good contract.
Tavares= top tier UFA cost big bucks
Matthews= franchise player
Marner=???

Yeah, my opinion on Marner has tilted a bit.

Nylander = good contract, and he fought for term, becasue he knew/knows he's the most likely to be dealt, he wants to stay in Toronto, and if he signed a bridge deal, it's way more likely he's dealt before his next deal
Tavares= top tier UFA cost big bucks
Matthews= franchise player
Marner=I think Lou and Babs have a lot to do with this contract. Lou says we don't give out full bonuses, then signs Matthews the next summer with full bonuses (Lou had to, but it screwed over Marner). Then having to play for a coach you don't like doesn't really encourage taking a team-friendly deal (and at the time of signing there was no reason to think Babcock wasn't going to be around for awhile). I also think Marner's dad has a Napoleon complex and was likely telling Mitch and Ferris the whole time that Marner deserves Matthews' $$.

That's just my take though.

I would've pressed my number harder and forced him to either take it or sign MIN or CBJ offer-sheets for compensation.

Dubas could have gotten dirty and done it through the media.

Marner camp can't have it both ways - Hometown boy wants to do anything to help the team, but also wants every single penny he can get.

I don't love the number, but i just tell myself, it's better to overpay your stars (my coping mechanism).

I’d rather over pay my stars, like you said. I’d take an overpaid star instead of a Seabrook or Ladd contract

What exactly do you hope to accomplish by this post? Leafs fans to stop bashing their best players? To stop picking a random scapegoat for lack of success? Good luck...

What exactly do you hope to accomplish by this comment?

There has been several posts about how the Leafs and Dubas specifically should have somehow predicted a pandemic and the resulting flat cap which would justify them saying Tavares was a bad signing. This ACGM specifically outlines why regardless of the flat cap that Tavares was still a great signing for Toronto. Notice how none of the ACGMs are commenting on this thread? Because he raises really good points. Also there's several of us Leafs fans commenting in support of his analysis of JT. Some Leafs fans bash their good players but not all of them do.

Go troll somebody else.

the penguins won back to back cups spending 40% of their cap on kessel, crosby, malkin, and hornqvist

they spent 66% of their cap on forwards, the leafs are spending 65%

Is anyone on the Leafs comparable to Crosby? Nope! is anyone on the Leafs comparable to Malkin? Nope! So the penguins had two players better than anyone on the Leafs current team.

Well, the year crosby won the cup he had 36g 85p in 80gp (at 28), matthews at 22 just scored 47 goals 80p in 70gp

That same year, malkin had 27g 58p in 57gp at 29 years old, tavares at 29 years old just had 26g 60p in 63gp

as for kessel, he had 26g 59p in 82gp at 28 years old, marner had 67p in 59gp at 23 years old, so marner is radically better

nylander vs. hornqvist isn't even close either. hornqvist had 22g 51p in 82gp at 28 years old, nylander had 31g 59p in 68gp at 24 years old

so.... you are incorrect lol

ik you're gonna come back with "leadership, playoff ability etc. etc." blah blah, point is, the leafs core is elite and arguably more talented than the 4 forwards pittsburgh ran with.

well I mean, ngl I was expecting to see crosby with like 50g 120p, but evidently not lol. Matthews/Marner/Nylander are so stupidly good and the oldest among them JUST turned 24. Tavares is still elite as well.
