pretty strong words form a team that no longer has a top pairing defenseman

If Max pacioretty is on the trade block, there would be so many better trades than that. We don't have a chance to get Pacioretty, unless we trade Lindholm for Pacioretty, which we wont. Also, we don't need him that much, because we already have a great leader in Giordano and his cap hit is very high.

your right and its likely another team will have a better offer but this team would benefit greatly from having a leader who puts up a point per gameon the offensive lines. Gio is an amazing leader but he hasnt been able to inspire in the past so imo they need some help in that area

from* and Bruins have McAvoy who's better than any Flame. Left side, they're fine with Grzelcyk since he has done well with McAvoy. Could only need a top4 LD for the second pair but right now, it's not a must.

Even if you a hole in your lineup, it's not a reason to overpay.

Last thing, unlikely but if CGY would make this deal with Vegas first, they would be over the cap and the teams wouldn't help you getting to the cap so you might as well get a slight underpay for someone you want to move.

@bhavikp27 Cut the man some slack. Bennett is known to be an excellent playoff preformer, which vegas needs. As well the price for Hanifin is honestly just fine. Hanifin is only 23 and has a lot of upside as a former 5th overall pick.

yes, I agree. However, I believe we can get a better deal in next year's offseason and also avoid the Kraken's expansion. Like going for Tatar, Landeskog or even bring Hamilton back again. With 15 million dollars in cap, we can do a lot in the offseason.

Cool story but that's still too much. Right now, I would give you a late 1st, then if I think he has that much upside, max another 3rd but not a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. He's been in the NHL for five years, it's starting to be long for a top5 pick. I don't give that much for him.

i know right,

All this Armchair GM has proven to me is Bruins fans clearly don't have a clue as to player value.

I believe personally Gio is still better than MacAvoy, right now yes but later no. Also, I think hanifin for that much is fine, 23 and growing and his contract is a steal. As long as u don't see a production drop, u will have solidified ur top 4, maybe if hanifin grows even more, he might be in the top 2. Then u would think this trade is worth it.

Agree to disagree. At the current moment, he's a 2nd pair D and I'm trading for his current value. As I previously said, the Bruins don't " need " him and they could find other options on the market.

Hanifin's +/- ranking is higher than guys like Thomas Chabot, Drew Doughty, Erik Karlsson and Oskar Klefbom

Pacioretty has a NTC, he might not have any interest playing for a Canadian market again.

I don't want OEL at all and he isn't moving.
We'll see at training camp, there's always more action at that time. Right now, the Bruins will likely want to go with the internal options, at least see what they got in them and give them an opportunity. Maybe they don't work out and we need a move asap, maybe they start the season with them and then acquire a dman mid-season or at the trade deadline.

You try to avoid overpaying like here, it's really the last option.

The guy is a 30 point defenseman and hes played in a 2nd pairing role his whole career.
He is being groomed to be the defenseman that runs the powerplay.
Hes not the best defensive defenseman in the league but hes still above average in that category
hes locked up at an incredibly cheap rate for the next 4 seasons
hes played almost 400 games and hes only 23. hes at least 4 years from his peak and hes already that good.

now lets talk about why Boston would want him
Hes a boston Native
Boston is very weak on the left side. Hanifin easily takes top spot on that roster giving him the opportunity to play top line minutes and improve on all of the things I said above
Grezelcyk is good but hes definitely not even close to top pairing material
in this trade you are giving up futures for a team that is in win now mode. not losing any nhl assets. previous rumors had both carlo and debrusk coming back to Calgary for hanifin +
