Philly deals with TB and Ghost moved

Description
Ghost moved for pretty weak picks, even though hes injury free now and a 43 pt season average, hes no longer a top 4 guy in PHI, so this is purely a cap move. Maybe its not NJ.

No one wanted Johnson for free and at 5mil for 4 more years, it easy to see why, so he has ZERO value. PHI wants Erik Cernak, a big, stay at home RFA defender to solidify their defense for years. Johnson is very quick, something PHI lacks and gives them one of the deepest and talented forward in the league.
For TB they get a capable bottom 6 versatile forward, 2 mid level prospects, a 2nd rounder and over 5mil in cap space. TB has very few players under contract and needs to move about 13mil in salary, while acquiring a few bodies who can play (and play well) in the NHL. Cernak is a offer sheet worry (up to 4mil offer is less than a 2nd rounder and TB couldn't match) and certainly a loss, but moving salary while getting back quality youngsters may make it work.
TB has few players under contract, and would still have to move a palat or gourde just to re-sign cirelli, but this move gets them halfway there.

Cernak would need protection in the expansion draft this summer. Therefore, we would have to give up even more assets to protect him from Seattle.

Agreed, PHI would have to protect 4 defensemen, but like what VGS was able to leverage, PHI could offer a good prospect/s and or picks for them to not take a defenseman or take a Johnson/JVR...

Tampa declines, Cernak isn't getting dealt to move Tyler Johnson's contract. How many times do we need to say it?

I suppose if it were that easy, it would've been done by now. Maybe now that Phil Myers has been signed, that in some way sets a market for Cernak. But TB needs to move about 13mil in salary and get back some bodies (capable bodies) in return. Trading 3 of Palat, Gourde, Johnson, Coburn for picks/scrubs doesn't ice a team.

They have few real prospects (and if 2 of palat/Johnson/gourde get moved, who plays in their spot?) and even contracts, I doubt teams offer real value to assist. TB has so little in the prospect system, they can not afford to moves many picks as enticement, so while I agree Cernak is valuable and very valuable to them, what else do they have as "enticement"?

True

they have RD Schenn but Sergachev can play RD, (hes certainly not going to be 3LD), and probably their dman closest to making the team is RD Cal Foote.

A trade of Cernak leaves them: Hedman, MacDOnaugh, Sergachev, Coburn, Schenn and Foote, 6 guys without Cernak, but theres also guys like RD Michael Stone, Del Zotto who could be had for vet minimum.

I would say we have no need to take on TyJo's contract and would regret it immediately. I'd rather use that cap space and assets for a legit top 4 RHD.
