Description
Ottawa last is pretty obvious there's just too many question marks
Edmonton sixth is just that goaltending cannot be trusted and with Klefbom out how good will the defence be?
The jets are fifth because their defence is a little weak after Morrisey, Pionk and Demelo
Flames and Canucks are interchangeable but i felt like the Flames just had more depth overall than the Canucks
Habs and Leafs are interchangeable, i just feel like the leafs have more things going for them than the habs

Is probably go: leafs, flames, jets, canucks, oilers, canadiens, senators. But really 3-6 could go in any order for me.

I mean for me 1-6 could go anyway but i feel like Edmonton and Ottawa are the teams with the biggest holes

EDM does have the leafs curse going for them - since barrie was a leaf and sucked, he's prob gonna win the norris this year for EDM or something similar

I think oilers may in tough in a condensed season. They don’t have a great duo in net and won’t be as easy to ride dri and mcdavid for as many minutes. May be a short season but I suspect it will basically be a game every other night. Nevermind missing their best dman.

I dont see a scenario where the Habs jump from 2nd last of these teams (they were 7 points behind Vancouver last year and the nucks had 2 games in hand at the pause) to a lock for 1st or 2nd this year. Sure they made some solid offseason moves and Suzuki is developing well but thats like me saying Chicago is a playoff lock because Dach is looking like a legitimate 2C already. Last year people were saying NJ and NYR were contenders too, its all nice in theory but proof trumps all.

Edmonton also has the highest chance to run away with the division though.

I’ll buck the trend since a Habs fan has the Leafs going 1st
IMO I really like the additions Montreal made this offseason. The Anderson contract could be a real problem if injuries continue to plague Josh but if he’s healthy he’ll be a great add. Couple that with Toffoli and Edmunson, the Habs will play a very heavy game, which come playoff time usually wins out. I see it:
Habs
Leafs
Jets
Flames
Oilers
Canucks
Sens

Same here, 3-6 is so hard to predict. This division will be super close.

I know we don't exactly have much star power but we are a very deep team that is being slept on imo

Agreed. I have them as 4th/5th, competing for a wildcard. They made some good additions, but I don't think it gets you over Calgary (who fixed their issue between the pipes), or Winnipeg (Who adequately filled their hole at 2C). Vancouver likely takes a step back this season (based purely on goaltending, and their D), but I feel like Edmonton is better than they were last year (Though it depends on which version of Koskinen they get, and how often they have to play Mike Smith).

Toronto has the best chance to win the division but I think they are matched too easily by Winnipeg and Edmonton to run away. Edmonton having 2 top 5 centers in the league but extremely questionable everything else could finish anywhere from 1-6. I cant see Toronto falling below 3rd personally but I also can't see them having a 10 point lead on 2nd either

This division would be so wacky. With the volatility of NHL teams year to year (think, Islanders, Aves etc) I think a reasonable argument could be made for the following teams finishing first:
Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver. That’s right, six of them.

I could also see every single one of those teams miss out on the playoffs. Ottawa is the one constant, but could I see them taking a big step and getting better? Ya. For sure.

As someone living in the states, I would be making sure I had a package where I could watch every canadian division game. That division would be electric.

Depends on which version of Carey Price you get, IMO. I also feel like Edmundson is going to disappoint a lot of Habs fans. Also, is Domi for Anderson not a neutral move? I get that they're different hockey players, but I don't think this is as huge of an upgrade as a lot of people are saying. Toffoli is definitely a plus though.

It's not being slept on and I do agree they are deep. It's that the team is almost entirely theory based, there is minimal field testing.

Hopefully with Allen, who really played better than Binnington last year, can give Price enough rest to be fresh for the playoffs. At least with the Domi for Anderson trade you know you can just plug him into the RW and let him go to work. From an outsider it looked like Domi never fit in, playing LW/C. Never found he’s role

I think the best way to order it would be by range of where you think they can finish, like this:
Leafs - 1st to 2nd
Flames - 1st to 4th
Oilers - 1st to 6th
Habs - 2nd to 5th
Jets - 2nd to 5th
Nucks - 3rd to 6th
Sens - 7th to still 7th

Um... that same goaltending duo led Edmonton to a 1st place finish in the country last year. Koskinen is as good as anyone's starter (not named Hellebuyck) and Smith battled to a terrible 19-12-6 record. LOL.

Koskinen is worse than Price, Hellebuyck and Markstrom and Smith is a not reliable backup

I'm hopeful that with the eastern teams having to complete waaay more travel than in a typical week and with the Jets not having to play against a steady diet of central division foes, that Winnipeg will do better than these projections. That said, I'm a complete homer.

Let me know if I've missed someone. Note that I'm not projecting roles or scoring next year, I'm just looking to see what each player did last year. But based on these numbers I don't see any justification for having 5 teams above Edmonton next year - they aren't even in the same zip code.

Edmonton is carried by Mcdavid and Draisaitl and their goaltending and defense is a question mark
