As much as I don't like Montréal I find it hard to believe they don't make the playoffs. Plus I highly doubt they get second last unless they got second last by like 2 or 3 points.

Idk they did lose a lot in the offseason, but like I said in the description these teams are hard to predict.

It could be so fun to watch! Most teams could go from 1st to 6th. That’s how close it is!

I would like to see them keep this division going forward as it will be hugely entertaining and so hard to predict the final standings due to parity

I totally agree this will be super fun to watch this year but going forward an all Canadian division is not great for continuing to grow the fan base in the US.

i think 1-6 all have a chance to win, also i think you're sleeping on Montreal and are overvaluing the canucks

LOL I don't care about growing the fanbase in the states JK. Not sure I would agree with that though, if the league kept with the new alignment for each division there will be bigger rivalries and such simply due to the close proximity of each city creating more excitement and drama for each fanbase. Which in turn will garner more interest from sports fans everywhere. I mean look at the Toronto-Montreal or Islander-Ranger rivalries, having more games against each other will create more public interest IMO

But if I move another team down, I'm sleeping on them lol. There could be so much movement within my ranking, I had a hard time narrowing 2-6 down. I know this division will be incredibly close and I think 2-6 will be separated by 4-5 pts.

Edmonton was the #1 team in Canada last year. What did they do in the offseason to make them slide to 5th? Was it the added scoring depth among forwards? Added offense from the blueline? Returning the same goalies that led them to #1 last year? What?

Perhaps the fact that other teams ALSO improved in these areas and improved more in my opinion than the Oilers. If you read my previous comments you will see that I think this division will be extremely close from 2-6 and I bet they will only be separated by a few points. Edmonton could finish 2nd or 6th and I wouldn't be surprised.

They did well in the offseason, and like I said it will be tight and I could turn out any way, but right now teams like Calgary and Vancouver look better on paper imo

The fact that Klefbom is out as well certainly doesn't help.

That's simply not true. Who added scoring depth among forwards? Which teams added offense from the blueline? More importantly, did 4 teams added enough of those things to get past Edmonton? You have Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Winnipeg ahead of Edmonton.

Scoring depth among forwards
Toronto - worse than last year, older and slower. Moved 2nd liners out and 4th liners in
Montreal - about the same as last year, the Domi trade was a big loss and they're weak down the middle
Calgary - no adds at all
Winnipeg - Stastny should help, but he'll be 35 by the time the puck drops
Edmonton - Turris, Kahun and Puljujarvi coming in, plus full seasons from Yamamoto and Ennis give this group a HUGE boost

Offense from the blueline
Toronto - changes are a wash, they got better defensively but downgraded offensively
Montreal - Edmundson might make them a little harder to play against, but adds no offense
Calgary - Hamonic and Tanev are a wash, losing Gustafsson reduces their blueline offense
Winnipeg - Nothing
Edmonton - Barrie is a strong add, Jones will get a full season

Here are each Canadian team's top-9 forwards by P/GP - none of them have the scoring depth Edmonton does and it's not close.

I applaud your research I'll give you that!

The only things I'm going to point out about your analysis are that Montreal is not weak down the middle and the addition of Toffoli and Anderson far outweigh what Domi provided. They are definitely stronger offensively. Toronto also improved on defence. Brodie and Lehtonen are the key pieces and the younger guys, especially Sandin should make a difference. They have much better depth on defence. Lastly, goaltending will play a big factor.

I'll leave you with what I stated multiple times before...it is going to be extremely close. Edmonton could very well finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. I'm not saying they don't have an improved squad because they do. It will be a tight division and I am excited to see how it all plays out in the end.
