26 plus taxi

Created by: A_K

Initial Creation Date: Dec. 8, 2020
Published: Dec. 10, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Sounds like the NHL's latest plan is to expand rosters to 26 and use a 4-man taxi squad, which I assume would be made up of AHL vets since the AHL season looks to be a 'go' and the prospects should be there for development.

Kostin is going to be the tough one to figure out IMO. Probably not gonna get a look despite some injuries to the forwards already so he should be back in the AHL but he may start up and get a few games, especially depending on when the AHL starts back up.

Thoughts on the look?

I'd swap the LWs to be Schwartz-Sanford-Blais personally but otherwise looks good. That Schwartz-O'Reilly-Perron line was *borat voice* very nice in the playoffs

They were amazing together vs Vancouver. I see that spot on LW next to ROR as a revolving door. Definitely would be refreshing to see more Schwartz away from Schenn - they're good together but I don't think it should be a concrete duo. Only duo that I wouldn't tinker with is ROR-DP tbh.

I’m too lazy to go to NST right now to check, but I feel like the Schwartz-O’Reilly combo has been nuts in limited minutes the last two years. It makes sense when you consider that Schwartz can do what O’Reilly can’t which is consistently carry the puck through the NZ.

Which is why I'm a huge proponent of a DP-ROR-Kyrou experiment. Give them a guy to carry the mail through the NZ and then let them go to work. Schwartz works there too, but using Kyrou would hopefully give him a big boost in confidence and some consistency. Worth a shot right?

FWIW your hunch is correct. Schwartz and ROR together operated at 56% xGF and 68% GF in 341 min together over last 2 szns.

Sick, not quite Schwartz-Schenn-Tarasenko good, but the QOC is probably quite a bit better.
