Plug holes with Value Contracts

Description
My thinking here is that the Jets won't want to burn an ELC year for Heinola, Samberg or Perfetti in a COVID shortened season. Vatanen and Haula can be brought in to play in situations where they can get significant playing minutes and special teams opportunities to earn a longer term deal in next year's free agency window. Vatanen getting to play point on PP1 would be enticing. The position made Trouba somehow look like an $8,000,000 man.
Either player could be an excellent sign and expose candidate for the Seattle expansion draft.

Hamonic is a different story. Nearing the end of his career and wants to be near family. Last year's playoff boycott wont help his market value but he's a fair upgrade off Poolman and I think he could be added at a great value.

Perfetti, Heinola and Samberg all play AHL, Liiga, or possibly the OHL (although I'm not sure what Perfetti would gain from a no-contact season)

Pretty sure Samberg's ELC can't be slid, it starts this season no matter where he plays, Perfetti and Heinola though can be slid and I think that's what will happen though I agree there's not much to be gained by Perfetti playing non contact hockey, what a joke that plan/idea is!!.. 👎

I like the idea of Hamonic, and I think he would take a hometown discount, but he’s not taking that much of a hometown discount.

I got a kick out of the Haula contract, and I understand why, but you can’t flub the money to make your plan work. I’d ditch the Vatanen signing.

You’d need to include a different prospect for Ottawa, Niku isn’t any better than what they have in Reilly and Wolanin. Niku would be closer to Lajoie, who’s down the depth chart in Ottawa. I’m not saying Ottawa has good LD after Chabot, but if Reilly or Wolanin can’t cut it on the 2nd pair, Brannstrom will be inserted and Reilly/Wolanin will be dropped to the 3rd pair with Lajoie standing by. There’s just no need to acquire Niku, and he’s the incentive to take Perreault. So if you want to trade Perreault, a different incentive is needed.

Is Hamonic really going to find much better money then that at this point?

Same for Haula, that's probably what he's going to end up signing for, there just isn't much cap space in the league for anyone to sign him for much more then that.

I don't see Niku being of much use or interest to Ottawa, agreed it'd take a different asset for the Sens to take Perreault off the Jets hands.

I think Hamonic is still a $3.5MM+ defender, but he wants to be close to home so bad that it’s possible, nobody knows his mind. He is limited to 7 teams though, with the cross border quarantine.

The Haula amount was just so the cap wasn’t over $81.5MM, it’s right to the dollar, lol.

Well Hamonic may still be a $3.5M dman but in this market idk if he finds that ever again.

Sorry, I totally missed the zero dollar cap space part of this... Lol
