Why? It makes Calgary an overall worse team now, and maybe better later depending on if they can draft a Patrnak/Point with that late pick or not

That pick might not be a late pick if they miss the playoffs in death division.

Alright, well, sheesh. Let’s talk this one through because my initial opinion is the value from boston is horrible. Basically Calgary gives up a 2nd pair left side D and gets a 3rd pair left D, a 2nd line RW, a high ceiling low percentage LD prospect, and a 1st. That seems like its beyond fair.

Ok lets wind back the expectations on this a bit. Calling Vaakanen a high ceiling LD prospect is like saying he has the same ceiling as Hanifin which is just completely wrong. Moore is a pure cap dump, Kase is fringe a 2nd liners, ideally a 3rd liner on a playoff team, and a late 1st is not exactly excellent value. This trade doesnt help Calgary now and doesn't really make them better later either unless Boston flops and misses the playoffs all of a sudden

I called vaakanainen a high ceiling low percentage prospect. So yes, i think he absolute has the same ceiling as hanifin. Actually probably a higher one. Just a much lower chance of fulfilling the potential, as i said.

Is it the term percentage you’re having trouble with?

I im fully aware of what it means I just think that your expectations are too high. There's zero chance he has a higher ceiling than Hanifin, that's just absurd. Could he be better than Hanifin is right now? Maybe but Hanifin has definitely not reached his ceiling.

What? My expectations? I said he was a very low percentage play. My expectations are that he has a nice long career in europe.

A Hanifin trade is something I would re-visit in the offseason. Basically, every year it seems the Bruins are linked to Hanifin and this dates all the way back to the 2015 draft. It seems highly likely Hanifin will be a Bruin eventually, and my guess is they pull the trigger on him next offseason.

For now, let's see how Kase does in a full season and especially how the prospect defensemen do. Acquiring Hanifin today would mean Boston loses an even better player at the expansion draft than originally expected.

Ok so how exactly does that make Flames fans feel. You expect him to bust yet think he returns a legitimate top 4 defenseman?

Most prospects bust. Yet they’re traded all the time. They’re lottery tickets. The more you get, the better the chance you win something.

Oh, and if you take a gander up at the trade you’ll see a first round pick, and a top six winger under team control along with that lottery ticket.

Again, Kase is not a top 6 winger, he is a middle 6 winger that skates with his head down. Calgary has made it quite clear they are looking to win, not go lottery shopping. The trade makes no sense for them.
