Description
Friedman on SN960: “There’s been a rumor going around, actually started in Europe, that the Lightning might trade for Henrik Zetterberg’s LTIR from Detroit, which makes sense depending on what they give up. The report’s been Tyler Johnson, we’ll see if there’s any truth to that.”

Coburn retires to avoid being traded, Chara signed to help Foote, Paquette also a cap casualty

What's the point in trading Zetterberg tho? I also think moving Johnson will cost more than that

Tbh if Seattle can have some sort of unwritten hush hush agreement that they’d take Johnson at the expansion draft I’d be fine with the deal as is. I’d even consider including someone like Svechnikov or Cholowski going to Seattle as part of the package.

But, to be stuck with TJ for the length of his deal for just a 1st that’ll almost surely be 25th or later, I’m not nearly as interested in the trade.

Coburn has a full NTC. He doesn't have to worry about getting dealt.

What's the point of getting rid of Coburn to sign Chara? that's 200k and your team has 640k cap space

Why would it cost more? That's already really expensive

A low 1st isn't really a lot given the situation and term of the contract

That is still a lot considering Johnson isn’t even that overpaid and he’s still a solid middle 6 guy. It’s Tyler Johnson, not Jack Johnson

he had a down year with the emergence of Cirelli and trades of Coleman and Goodrow. Palat moved up to the top line so there wasnt any room for him anywhere else. only 2 seasons ago he was a 29 goal scorer

4 more years is the key!!!! I wouldn't trade JJ for TJ & a late first, neither would any owner or any sane gm. Staal is also still serviceable and cost an early 2nd, yet he's only for 1 year! Every team will need that cap in 2/3/4 years, including DET.

Staal is definitely not nearly as good as TJ. There’s no reason TJ can’t be a 50 point guy again for the next few seasons. I am fairly confident the absolute max Tampa pays to move him is a first, and that would be a very good return for whoever gets TJ and the first. He could be a 50 point 20+ goal scorer whose just a little overpaid

Tyler Johnson is literally a top 6 forward on at least 80% of teams in the league

Johnson still looks like Johnson and his style is in line with where the league is going with speed. Look how stacked tampa's roster is, he barely gets looks when he's on the PP (Sergachev is the main shooter on the 2nd PP). He used to be the guy, he had the record for points in the playoffs (a lot against detroit) till Point this year and that's just by one. And Point had an extra 3 round robin games. Iunno why no one picked him up from waivers other than the COVID related internal finances and bitterness

I don’t understand why Zetterberg would be included, unless Yzerman plans on taking on an unholy amount of salary dumps. I guess it could be to balance out contracts, but they could just include some random AHLer instead.

That Det trade makes no sense for them. They aren't competitive and cap space is everything for the next year or two.

It also make no sense for TJ to waive his NTC; going from a Cup winner and set up to contend for the next few years, to a bottom feeder that might be competitive when his contract is ending. He'll even take a paycut due to the state tax difference, and make no Playoff bonus money.

Are you kidding us, So Detroit takes on Tyler Johnson's full contract 4 years $20 million for roughly a low 1st round pick and you think that's an fair offer.

Take far more then a #25 pick and later to take on Tyler Johnson's contract especially if we're dealing Zetterberg to help JBB with his cap situation. Yzerman isn't that stupid.

The Detroit trade as it is here isn’t happening. It’s not even close! Stop trying to sell it.

I cant wait till something along those lines does happen, and I will laugh at all you red wings fans. this is a great deal for Detroit and Yzerman would take it in a second
