Additional to a very underwhelming Matthews return the Leafs wouldn't even receive more cap space as Per-o has a NTC and would want to stay there likely

The Ranger deal is totally delusional, The Rangers can't afford both Connor and Laine and then give big contracts to Fox, Kakko and Lafreniere down the road.

The trade would be ok if they had centers to make up for the losses of Zibanejad and Strome. The big reason they don’t make that trade is because they’re full on wingers and this trade would completely decimate their center depth which is their weakest forward position to begin with. Connor and Laine would be great additions for the Rangers down the road, but not for this trade at this point in time.
