Trades like the schmidt trade shouldn't be used as comparables. He's worth way more $$, limiting the amount of teams that can acquire him, and it was move that had to be made quickly to make room for Pietro. Also the Pandemic limits teams that would want to jump at a big $$ deal with term.

At the deadline, Savard's AAV will be a fraction of what it is today.

Always better to use recent deadline deals for comparables.

Skjei and Martinez trades are good examples.

The Jackets (who are almost guaranteed to make the playoffs) aren’t giving you a top-4 D for cheap. Columbus doesn’t need cap space, and they don’t want to trade Savard. The Schmidt comparison is completely idiotic.

Not to mention, any trade-deadline deal is going to have increased value as a result of urgency. If TOR truly believes they have a Stanley Cup in their grasp at the trade deadline, they’ll give up more.

And yeah, if CBJ are playoff-bound, Savard isn’t moving. If they don’t trade him this offseason, they’re more likely than not planning on resigning him.
