2015 Draft

Team: 2020-21 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 29, 2020
Published: Dec. 13, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just kills me they missed out on the 3picks directly after theirs. Just hurts the soul. Not that I don’t respect who they picked. They alright. Debrusk the obvious gem out of the batch but nothing impactful. role players which ain’t the worst, to make it seem not so bad. I remember them going off the board in that draft with Chabot and barzal in mind like how do u not take them? What’s up with Boston, like just only pick certain types of personalities? That’s it? That’s LAW? Anyone money hungry at all, You ain’t getting picked by the bruins. What is it?

Barzal sign for that much! Of course, it’s the Bruin way, it is the way. I do highly respect how they run their organization! Questionable for sure, but not scared to notice they need to point in a different direction to sustain a good team, missing the playoffs for a year ain’t a big deal cuz ya took some chances. But ya really didn’t even draft one of those three guys? Yikes

Get over it. Every team in the league can say the same thing. How many teams passed on Pasta that would love to have him. You think there are not multiple teams kicking themselves for passing on Barzal? In a complete redo he goes 3rd overall.

Also. Could have taken Roope Hintz and Vince Dunn in the 2nd over JFK and Lauzon.

Woulda coulda shoulda....if if if .

You could do this for multiple Boston drafts BTW. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Don has a tendency to reach and it has hurt the org multiple times.

      It is what it is.

The only pick that was bad was Senyshyn. Debrusk was a bit high but not much. Zboril was slotted there. Chabot and Zboril were opposite type of d men. Chabot was an offensive, puck moving d man with serious holes in his defense. Zboril was a shutdown d man with marginal offense. With Krug on board already Zboril made more sense at the time. Did not pan out. It happens.

A lot to unpack here. First off, many people had Zboril ranked ahead of Chabot, Zboril was the #1 guy in St John. So it really wasnt a surprise or a head scratcher at the time. Debrusk/Senyshyn were considered reaches, the latter being a big reach, that for sure. And to touch on your "personality argument" I feel the knock on the bruins is that that they take a lot of Americans/local players, yet in this 1st round they took one player from each Canadian major junior league. Also, i dont think "money hungry" really comes into play when youre drafting an 18 year old whos not gonna really get paid for most likely another I mean it sucks as a fan, but 24 teams passed on Pastrnak, Bergeron is a 2nd rounder, Marchand a 3rd rounder, CAR took Jake Bean (not a bad player whatsoever) one pick ahead of McAvoy, even in this draft Brandon Carlo was had in the 2nd round (as was Sebastian Aho) EDM also traded the 16th pick (Barzal) for Griffin Reinhart for crying out loud. Hindsight is 20/20 man, teams make mistakes.

Has this topic been talked to death? Yes
Is it still crazy to think about? Also yes
2015 was an incredible draft class, and Boston could have set up for another 10-15 years of excellence, maybe another cup or two. Instead we are talking about them regressing in the near future with the careers of Chara, Bergeron, Krejci, Marchand, Rask all coming to an end with no stars coming to replace them (Pasta aside)

All of us watching the draft that day knew the Islanders were lucky when Barzal fell that far. He should have went top 10 that day. And in hindsight today he would go top 5 for sure.

Why do people continue to send Moore to LA? Kings got Maata, they have no need for a 7th Dman making almost 3M for 3 years......

      And McAvoy.

People need to realize drafting is an imperfect job. I could be the best scout in the world but there is no correct formula to drafting. Look at the percentages if i remember them correctly - only like 33% of first round selections hit (make the NHL into a career). It’s like 10% on the second and 5% or less in the third. More undrafted players make up the NHL than all the rounds except maybe the 1st+2nd combined (I’m very roughly recalling quotes I remember reading).

@NoDeke No organization in all of sports knows the answer to drafting. It’s pretty much impossible lmao.

Many players are rated better than players who go later. Players could have had bad years/ late bloomers/ develop slower. Many players aren’t drafted early because they just weren’t highly rated and most of the times it’s because they truly weren’t very good until later whereas some of the highly rated players had a great year/ do amazing in junior/ just very good - and then they fall off or injuries or it just doesn’t work out. Just like how it works out for the undrafted guys - it’s unpredictable

Agreed. Bruins have also been below-average at drafting with Sweeney as GM which sucks for the upcoming years.

Imo development and internal culture/ training is more important than scouting. Teaching a player to be professional on and off the ice/ work life balance - health and food and everything when it comes to be a elite athlete. And developing the player - into the best they can be.

The bruins are a great development team and integral culture. There’s no issues, just people who don’t understand the broader scope of sports business + sport franchises. If you can develop players and teach them in more the just hockey you’ll be fine (and the bruins are).

Lmao not sure why everyone liked urs and not mine, but ur right...
Go take a look at my redraft ACGM, it actually does it correctly! Its good! rather than stupid

No. They all suck and are pointless.

Everyone is smarter after the fact.

I would have played the winning numbers on Powerball yesterday had known what they were going to be.

Would not have hooked up with that crazy chick had i known the outcome.

Would have bought Google stock against advice of my broker knowing what i know now.

Certainly would not have gotten married had i known i what it would become.

Hindsight is easy. You have the answers already.

Bruins were never really looking at Barzal...for a reason. They knew their top 2 centers were set for another 5 years. Barzal never put up big numbers in jrs and there was injury concern. They needed wings. There were a number to choose from. B’s went with speed. It’s a trend they tend to take with picks. When push comes to shove they take the guy that can skate. Debrusk was OK. Senyshyn was a fail....so far. It happens. What makes it tougher for fans is when a team bypasses higher ranked players for someone the org really likes and that pick fails. If the proper pick is made and they fail, that’s on the player. Fans just call them a bust. When a reach fails, fans go ballistic and call for heads to roll. Over reaction but human nature. Chabot and Zboril were fairly close in grades but opposite type of players. Boston wanted the more defensive player. It backfired...so far.

But in the end it’s just crying over spilled milk. Pointless. Wipe it up and move on. If there is no crying in baseball there certainly isn’t in hockey.

Here is the “reality”. The butterfly affect. The team is what it is today. You go back and redo that draft or any draft there are consequences.

Maybe they don’t get MaCavoy the next year and the RD is a mess.

They never trade for Coyle who is an integral part of the team.

They are in cap hell like the Bolts are right now.

They don’t trade for Nash and have to carry Beleskey full term.

They have to pull a Marleau type trade to move Backes.

Is Barzal the same player with Boston as he is with NY? They did not have the luxury of having Bergy and Krejci in front of him. Would he have made his debut as quick in Boston. Would he be excelling in a different role with lesser wings?

It’s not as simple as just go back and change a couple picks and everything else stays the same.

In the end it’s just a waste of time. Coulda, woulda, shoulda....but didn’t. Not going to change it.

Nah man I get that dont worry. I really do and I respect you, but I just wanted to make it clear that IFFFFF people want to do it, they should at least make it realistic.

OF COURSE everything would be different.
Hell, the most obvious one is that if the bruins had Barzal, there is a ZERO percent change they woulda brought in Coyle to fill the 3C spot left behind by spooner...

But my point stands that there is a good way to do it, IFFF you are going to do it at all.

But again I hope you understand that part of it because I do like your content and stuff and Id hate to go against you any longer man,.

I agree they are all Pointless and Inaccurate, but I think Stupid is the wrong word, because there are smart ones like mine, that are Inaccurate and Pointless, I will be the first to admit that, but i can promise its realistic and smart ya know... But I digress man

Has this topic been talked to death? Yes
Is it still crazy to think about? Also yes
2015 was an incredible draft class, and Boston could have set up for another 10-15 years of excellence, maybe another cup or two. Instead we are talking about them regressing in the near future with the careers of Chara, Bergeron, Krejci, Marchand, Rask all coming to an end with no stars coming to replace them (Pasta aside)

what about mcavoy hes gonna be a star and debrusk could be a star

People need to realize drafting is an imperfect job. I could be the best scout in the world but there is no correct formula to drafting. Look at the percentages if i remember them correctly - only like 33% of first round selections hit (make the NHL into a career). It’s like 10% on the second and 5% or less in the third. More undrafted players make up the NHL than all the rounds except maybe the 1st+2nd combined (I’m very roughly recalling quotes I remember reading).

@NoDeke No organization in all of sports knows the answer to drafting. It’s pretty much impossible lmao.

Sorry that this is like beating a dead horse. I fully understand how difficult drafting is. I made this because the next three picks after theirs were unreal good players. It just sucks for them that they didn’t get one off them or just actually get an epic player, as I’m assuming thats what they were going for when they got three picks. I remember them going off the board which wasn’t surprising but Jeez! It was right there lol. unpredictable is right! Drafts are so crazy a wings fan and I know what happens in drafts lol. Like sorry not trying to make the most legit gm here, wanted to see Chabot Connor and Barzal on this team! God that would have been amazing!
