Going All In

Created by: AnalyticsGeek
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 13, 2020
Published: Dec. 13, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I can see the argument on how it is not a good idea to give up all these assets for rentals, but I feel this is the last chance the Leafs have to contend with this core. If they disappoint again, they are going to have a major shakeup anyway so might as well go all in and build as strong of a team as possible.

Guys on LTIR are my taxi squad players.

Oh, that's too much for Foligno, even with the retention.

Patience is a virtue. So far, Holl hasn't shown to be so bad* that Toronto has to pay to upgrade there.

* meaning we haven't even played any games this season yet.

If I were the Dallas GM I'd personally fly to Toronto to slap Kyle Dubas

He’s a 4th liner but he’s fantastic in that role, not to mention his leadership. This is why MIN fans really value him and one of the reasons I think the Wild could surprise people in 2021-2022. (I’m fully writing next year off)

Not worth a first but still that’s a very useful depth player - shouldn’t be on the top line but he’s definitely a valued player

Goodrow fetched a first. Foligno is better imo. Certainly possible

This is the perfect trade comparison IMO. I also believe MIN means to resign him so it’s going to take a good return for them to part with him.

I think it’s fair logic but I’d say it’s not unreasonable.

Goodrow was also traded to Tampa. And Goodrow was also a UFA with 2 years at ELC price. Tampa wanted to get Goodrow who’s similar to Folingo and Coleman and so they paid

Goodrow is significantly cheaper even with retention and had an extra year

Yeah Foligno’s a beast. I definitely think he could fetch a first.

Thanks for the feedback. I think Holl’s a solid 4D but Oleksiak has some of the top defensive results in the league so i couldn’t resist.

A lot of the analytics for defensemen we all keep pulling out are highly dependent on one thing, do your forwards fulfil their defensive assignments? If not, I don’t care if you have Hedman paired with Petro back there with Gibson in net, you will not win.

Is Oleksiak an upgrade from Holl with the same forwards on the ice? I don’t know.

You are right man. But honestly, I think all the forwards on my team are pretty defensively responsible except Marner, Nylander & Robertson.
