Created by: Saskleaf
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 14, 2020
Published: Dec. 14, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a team of nhlers on other team much like current leafs. Let me know what you think.
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Eichel, Jack
Additional Details:
Matthews is better easily, but the comparison is close, and I didn't want to do Drais or Mack here (people would get mad)
2.
TOR
  1. Stamkos, Steven
Additional Details:
Very similar.
3.
TOR
  1. Svechnikov, Andrei
Additional Details:
Shut up Carolina fans.
4.
TOR
  1. Coleman, Blake
Additional Details:
Except for position, they are very similar.
5.
TOR
  1. Johnsson, Andreas
Additional Details:
When they were teammates, they were always kind of lumped together.
6.
TOR
  1. Marleau, Patrick
Additional Details:
Same draft year, both superstars back in the day, they were even teammates. Not a hard choice.
7.
TOR
  1. Järnkrok, Calle
Additional Details:
I don't know.
8.
TOR
  1. Lucic, Milan
Additional Details:
Both old washed up power forwards.
9.
TOR
  1. Tippett, Owen
Additional Details:
Both top of the line ohl prospects.
10.
TOR
  1. Koivu, Mikko
Additional Details:
Now it's close (at one point Spezza was better for sure).
11.
TOR
  1. Weal, Jordan
Additional Details:
Heck I don't know. Both players are fringe nhlers. Never really seen either play.
12.
TOR
  1. Petry, Jeff
Additional Details:
Got this from AruntiLehkonen's (definatly spelt it wrong, he's a cap friendly user) montreal version of this.
13.
TOR
  1. Klingberg, John
Additional Details:
Rielly a bit better, but I want to avoid bias so I made what I thought are slightly lesser leafs equivalent for several of my choices.
14.
TOR
  1. Kulak, Brett
Additional Details:
Same as Muzzin equivalent, can't take credit for the idea.
15.
TOR
  1. Siegenthaler, Jonas
Additional Details:
Meh I don't even know.
16.
TOR
  1. Zub, Artem
Additional Details:
Both this year khl free agent signings.
17.
TOR
  1. Brodin, Jonas
Additional Details:
Maybe I'm under rating Brodin? Let me know.
18.
TOR
  1. Binnington, Jordan
Additional Details:
Both good starters.
19.
TOR
  1. Demko, Thatcher
Additional Details:
Both solid Backups.
20.
TOR
  1. Rantanen, Mikko
Additional Details:

I'd use another backup to compare Campbell to. Demko was only solid for a 4 game stretch in last years playoffs. If you are projecting forward for what he may be this season, I think it swings the other way and would say much more is expected from Demko than a career backup like Campbell.

Marner definitely isn’t as good two way as stone, but probably is a better playmaker. I wouldn’t say that’s a great comparison.

There’s no way Nylander is comparable to Svech. Cmon man.

Brodin> Brodie as well

Demko > Campbell

Most comparisons are good tho.

most of the comparables are good but Marner is not close to stone and hyman isn't good defensively at even strength so I wouldn't say hes a comparable to Coleman.

Don't expect @mhockey91 to compliment a Habs or a Leafs player lol

in addition to those recent numbers (i posted above) let's look at how they compared after their first two seasons

these are at 5v5 (EV) and all situations btw. Nylander is similar or better in most categories lol

you can argue it, maybe svech (being younger) has the higher ceiling, but to say "it's not even close" when nylander literally has more goals/similar points than svech etc. i don't understand

On the ice there’s no comparison. Svechnikov is just such a constant threat. I think you can game plan for nylander. I don’t think you really can for svechnikov. Both very good players, but no question i take svechnikov over nylander.

have you seen nylander play lol? he's a possession beast, great skater, has a wicked shot (evidenced by his more goals), and has pulled off some deadly passes (evidenced by his higher primary assists)

they are very similar players, svech is a beast, but so is willy

Svech had 61 in 68 as a 20 year old.
Nylander had 59 in 68 as a 24 year old.

Maybe this year their stats are comparable, but considering Svech is 4 years younger, his upside is way more impressive

I mean, not to play that card, but ya. I’ve watched my team speedbag the leafs for a few years so I’ve seen plenty of Willy.

Nylander just isn’t the same kind of threat. Maybe more consistent? I guess I’d give you that. Svechnikov has, “well, nothing you can do about that,” kind of talent. I’ve never seen nylander do anything like that. That’s not really a knock on him. There aren’t really many players in the NHL that have a gear where they just can’t really be contained. Nylander isn’t one of them. I’ve seen plays that make me think svechnikov is.

Apples and oranges when comparing their line mates and usage. Compare year him with top line mates. Lol. Svech’s play is better. Same points in 13 less games.

well we aren't talking upside though are we, we're talking about how they play right now right? Which is identical points and willy with more goals in the same gp. He's the better player rn

I always get dunked on because I use your exact argument to point out Matthews has WAY more points/goals than draisaitl and mackinnon had at the same age, but I'm told that doesn't matter and we should look at the players as they are now, bc those guys weren't NHL ready at the time

svech is playing similar 4 years younger yes, but he's still playing similar. If next year svech takes another step (which he prob will), then we can come back and say he's better than willy. but right now, they have identical numbers

Nylander with an inflated shooting percentage and more ice time didn’t outscore Svech this year. Svech is better

The numbers are similar sure, I’m shocked nylander did that well tbh. But still, after watching Svech he just has more of a wow factor. And like someone else pointed out, he doesn’t get usage with a guy as good as Matthew’s
