Prospect Pyramid

Created by: Josh
Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 15, 2020
Published: Dec. 15, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Also included any 1st year/young players, as well.

Tiers 1-3 are locks for NHL players, ranging in impact. Tiers 4-5 I see little chance of NHL time.

Players ranked by potential within their tiers.

Tier 1 = LW -- Elite level prospect
Tier 2 = C -- High Top 6/Top 4 potential
Tier 3 = RW -- Bottom 6 (Ranging from Pretty Good 3rd liner to consistent ice time 4th liner) or 5-7th NHL D-man
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tier 4 = LD -- Needs to do more to prove they can carve out some NHL time. Not likely
Tier 5 = RD -- Won't see NHL time in my opinion. (Honestly stopped here. If they aren’t listed, they need work, luck and more luck to be anything more than a 4th line call up for 2 games during their career.)

Tier 6 = G -- Goalie rankings

Jones and Barron go up to tier three and Wall is maybe ab ove Garand, but otherwise pretty solid.

Neither Kakko nor Fox are prospects anymore with a full season under their belts and they wouldn't fit in the first tier of these pyramids anyway.

I wouldn't call Kakko, Fox, Chytil, Lindgren, Howden, Shesterkin prospects but alright.

Okay rangers fans, you can’t have it both ways. You can’t tell me that fox is a combo between Scott stevens and Bobby Orr, a lock for the Norris, and simultaneously call him a prospect.

You think you have that many prospects right now that are locks to play consistently in the NHL??? I'd say only a couple of the guys from tier 3 are a lock whatsoever to play consistent NHL time. I mean how is Tarnstrom, a 3rd round pick from the 2020 draft, or Cuylle, a late 2nd rounder from the 2020 draft a lock to play in the NHL lol

Player v Prospect. Once a player 25 games in a season he is no longer eligible for The Calder Trophy. So 25 games in a season where I draw the line between player and prospect. What do you guys think?

I like the idea of Calder Trophy eligibility being the line. Has something to do with age as well.

Yeah the age is 26 and the 3rd hurdle is 6 or more games in the 2 previous seasons. I like it because it's constant and it's completely objective.

These guys have played full season(s). Fox (1), Chytil (2), Howden (2), Lindgren (1) have all played more than usual " prospects ", which they aren't. Shesterkin has only 12 GP but it's kind of obvious he'll stay in the NHL. He's a rookie but definitely not a prospect.
