Initial Creation Date: Dec. 15, 2020
Published: Dec. 16, 2020

Description
Adding RNH and Green through UFA isn't really part of this.....just used some of the cap....if SEA had extra I'd expect them to try to get a bigger name player...

your thoughts on any or all of this???
picks realistic???

I used lists given me by other CF users for the most part.

The leafs trade is not enough for Toronto, combined they would need a second, Sandin is the best D prospect in the system and he's only 20, Dermott is a solid 2nd pairing guy but due to how many D the Leafs have in front of him he doesn't have the chance to play there.

No chance that Kraken take Eriksson without a huge payment. Holtby is sketchy enough unless he has a huge year...

holtby's numbers have been declining steadily the last couple year which is why I think VAN might prefer to keep the younger Demko with upside. yeah maybe a 1st to take Eriksson's contract or more. TOR gave CAR a first to take/buyout P Marleau's contract...

yeah someone mentioned that...I was trying to find a lesser prospect to send....anyone that fits the bill....? or maybe Dermott is enough for SEA...

Interesting... and to answer your question, I would love for them to pick Neal. Honestly I think it may come at a expense unless they have to reach the cap floor, or does outstanding this year. Now I would never pay with Nuge, as he is just too good. You can only pick one player so... how about Benson, and Skinner for you guys to take Neal. Giving you two prospects that need protection that could be good.

sorry if there was a misunderstanding.....I signed RNH out of UFA (also Andy Greene as depth on D) prob shouldn't have.....I thought it might confuse people......so the payment from EDM rn as I had it was just the first round pick...now SEA might like a couple prospects as opposed to picks bc they have to fill out a minor league team in a year of two....

Oshie, Van Riemsdyk, Subban, Erikson, Neal, Kesler and Okposo are waaaay to many cap dumps. (around 45M!!!)

Vegas only had Marchessault, Reilly and Fleury (+Clarkson on LTIR) @ 5M+.

thing is--oshie, Neal, JVR can still play to an extent....at least for now....so they aren't cap dumps rn. they will be in a couple years--hence the payment...
Subban, kesler, Eriksson are only 1 year and if SEA takes a ton of younger or cheaper guys as I did they'll have room....
but a very fair point. I personally don't expect that many "cap dumps" but I would love to SEA take a bunch and get a king's ransom for doing it... smile

Ah gotcha! I would really like to avoid giving the first, but it may be near impossible, because the reason why we would pay is to keep Jones.... Benson and Skinner may not be enough as expected. We may have to add a bit more, but I may be biased... who knows.... but I don’t think we have to add a significant amount on top.

My initial thought was "RNH ain't signing here...", but the more I think about it, if his #1 priority is money, Seattle might be one of a very select few teams that are willing to spend next offseason. I think it's a stretch, for sure, but I think the likelihood of them signing a solid UFA is higher than previous expansion teams.

Ducks-wise, I think someone already mentioned it, but I can't imagine the Ducks paying to move Kesler. I could see them moving Mahura and a 3rd to avoid losing someone like Lundestrom though.

Leafs-wise, no need for Sandin and a 4th. Even if the goal was to keep Kerfoot (I can't imagine it's the #1 priority...his value is probably pretty similar to Dermott's, and they could probably fill the 3C hole cheaper if that was an issue), it should cost more than a 3rd or 4th + Dermott to keep him.

I don't think Philly would send York and a 1st to move JVR, but maybe? Carter Hart and Travis Sanheim are their only two major contracts to sign, and they should have space to fill out the roster. JVR is still reasonably productive, and is only signed for 2 more years post expansion draft. I'm 50/50 on this one...depends on how the teams finances are looking I guess.

For Vancouver, Seattle would be able to take Holtby for nothing (Assuming the team protects Demko). With a $6 mil cap hit (And $4 mil owed), and with how hard it seems to be to move contracts around right now, I think it'll take no less than a 1st to get them to take Loui.

RNH--yeah it's just a shot in the dark, but I kinda feel SEA needs a couple big names or at least big personalities, and with RNH, Holtby, Subban, they kinda do that....VGK got some diamonds in the rough, but they got a bunch of great players too.... and Fleury was the face of their franchise...

ANA--nice point. ANA isn't going anywhere, and I wasn't too familiar with their prospects...

TOR-yeah some people have mentioned that. I may be underrating Dermott a bit and leafs fans may be overrating him a bit lol smile

PHI--again, not too familiar with the prospect York but JVR's contract is gonna be awful in a year or two....I laughed when it was signed...prob costs less though....

VAN--again, a good point. and VAN will need prob over 15M to sign Pettersson/Hughes

Mostly sounds good, but LA will protect Lizotte. He's on ELC and had a good season. They can exposed a lot of other player.
Eriksson Ek stay in MIN especially with their offseason this year, they can't let him go. They already lost Haula and Tuch in the previous expansion draft. They'll not repeat the same error.
Kraken have a lot of better option in MTL. Juuslen and Mete will be available, same for Edmundson or Chiarot. Also they can take Tatar or Armia and try to get deal done before UFA.
NJD doesn't have to retain en Subban. I'll have one year left and I think he can be a good guess. If not, Devils can keep him and reach floor cap hit.
Flyers doesn't pay York + 1st for JVR. I think he can be one of the best pick in this expansion draft if he bounce back this year. If not, Ghostisbehere is another option with 2 years left on his deal.
If Caps were to loose Oshie, they just not protect him and he'll be pick by Seattle without getting picks or player

wasn't too familiar with Lizotte or LA in general--any other players that would be good options?
MIN fan said JEE would b available.....maybe someone else???
MTL was a tough one for sure....
agree on PHI/WSH

I'd do this from Buffalo's perspective, especially if Hall fits here and shows interest in re-signing at a reasonable price.

Quoting: Bflo_Soldier
Mittelstadt has been pretty underwhelming. They may decide to move him now while there's still a lot of value for a developing prospect, especially with Cozens coming through now. They'd be hoping his value allows them to get the cap space (which they'll need later on for guys like Eichel and Dahlin) and they're not stuck in another Grigorenko or Alex Nylander situation.

thanks for the feedback!

Tor: Yeah, Dermott isn't as bad as a lot of people say, nor is he as good as some people say. He's probably a decent option as a 3rd pairing guy that can play up, and has the potential to be at least a serviceable 2nd pairing guy on a so/so defensive team.

PHI: The thing about JVR's contract being bad in a year or two, is that by that point, you're only a year or two away from it being done. It was certainly big money, but it's not like some of those 7-8 year massive money deals. He'll only have 2 years left when this draft happens, and is only 33-34 when it expires. I have way less faith in the Kevin Hayes contract holding up TBH.

For LA I see
Kopitar, Iafallo, Kempe, Lizotte, Andersson(40), Grundstrom(40), Luff(40) or Wagner or Frk
Doughty, Walker, Roy or Clague(40)
Peterson
(40) = game required to be exposed. If we NHL are going to 56 games this season, there's a lot of chance a couple of those player do not meet condition, so they'll not be avaible for the expansion draft. That said LA can protect other player and exposed Carter, Brown, Quick or minor player.

For MIN, They have to protect Parise and Zuccarello because of their NMC and if they don't trade of their Defensmen in Dumba, Spurgeon, Suter and Brodin, you're right, JEE will be exposed, Fiala and Greenway are the other two protected player.

I personnally think Guerin will try to move one player off his NMC. I can see Zucc or Parise waive. If not, i'll have to make some move, like trading Dumba for forward and protect 7-3-1 instead of 4-4-1
Soucy can also be take by Seattle.

The habs wouldn’t be giving you picks to move Byron, but you could take him if you wanted. However it might make sense to give you those picks if you switched Byron with Edmundson.

My idea must not be so bad since ot is exactly what sportsnet suggested in yesterday's article wink
