Yep, the Oilers have a reasonable amount of flexibility once Klefbom is on LTIR. The taxi squad rules - although not finalized yet - should alos help out, as the Oilers could place guys like Neal, Russell and Khaira there and not worry too much about them getting picked up off waivers. This saves $1.075M per player against the cap, which is enough to bring in a couple of decent players in this market.

(I don't think anyone is giving Sheary $2M when a guy like Kahun got $975k).

Good point, I hadn't thought about that with the Taxi Squad rules..

And fair enough on Sheary, he gets some cache for playing well with Crosby but you're right, he wouldn't have been traded or still be an FA if he was that good. I'd still give him a chance on an even cheaper deal..

Oilers aren't in a horrible position cap-wise, but the more flexibility the better.

I don't see any team wanting Kassian as his deal is simply too long. While theres no doubt hes a valuable player, obviously his numbers have been pumped up while playing with 97. By considering that, I just don't see a team willing to commit to his 4 year deal like that.

It will be interesting to see what Holland does for cap flexibility. The obvious name is Chaisson, as with all the wingers we have added, when everyone is healthy, there isn't space for him. The problem is, thats 25-30 pts (in an 82 game schedule), that you need to replace. Chaisson plays his roll well and is by no means overpaid, but its a shame to have a $2M winger as a scratch.
