CHI
  1. Steen, Alexander
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (STL)
Additional Details:
Could be a third this year, it really does not matter.

Note on Dylan Strome: this move makes it so we can’t sign him in the offseason, until we put Steen on LTIR. Since were obviously in no rush to sign him as it is we can pick up a 2nd or 3rd.
STL
The idea,is that the blues give up a minor asset so they can sign Dunn sooner, instead of waiting until the season has started.

Why can't STL put him on LTIR?

They Can and will buy you need to be cap compliant prior to the start of training camp, his premise of the trade is they can sign Dunn now if they did this move but I don’t see why doing it now be in a couple weeks, Dunn isn’t going anywhere

The only value In doing this is they could spend some additional cap on a ufa, like offering and signing a haula or grandlund for a cheap 1 year deal

Ah, didn't see that section when I commented. STL should just wait.

It’s also 3.5m in salary they don’t have to pay him on ltir, so if blues want to save real money, this could help

But in reality waiting is the move for them, they aren’t in trouble losing Dunn not being signed

I think STL is currently above the cap but like 1.2 million dollars. I think they would need to make a move right now to get under the cap but I’m not sure if it’s a simple paper transaction or they have to move some1. They can’t put steen on LTIR because offseason LTIR and in Season LTIR shenanigans. If they traded steens contract they wouldn’t need to worry about that and could sign Dunn right away. Depending on how much Dunn costs they could also start accruing deadline cap space, instead of being ineligible due to LTIR. In any case this isn’t some great breaking idea, just an excuse to get a 2nd or 3rd.

BUT they don't need to sign Dunn until after the season starts either. On Day 1 they need to have a roster. On Day 2 they can send Steen to LTIR and day 3 they can sign Dunn.
