What it is

Created by: IslesTime
Team: 2020-21 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 19, 2020
Published: Dec. 19, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With the shortened season and AHL delayed, there is no way the Isles play any of the kids this year. They will go into this season trying to maintain the momentum they took from the playoffs with the same roster and see if they can recreate it. They added higher end talent to the AHL with hopes this elevates the play of Bellows, Wahls, and Otto going into next season and the opening at Belmont. At least its another year closer to getting those ****ty contracts off the books.

To start the year, I could absolutely see that. When you put it like that, it’s a pretty good strategy actually. But when injuries/positive Covid tests inevitably happen, they’re going to need replacements. That’s when guys like Bellows, Aho, Koivula and Wahlstrom should get their chances.

I agree, but it’s inevitable that the PP will struggle and they’ll need one of bellows/wahlstrom to help. If neither of them get any playing time this season, I can see them requesting trades.

I don’t rly think Wahlstrom would yet, Bellows on the other hand is a possibility

True. I know Aho was unhappy he didn’t get in one game last season - 6 months ago he did an interview in Sweden and said it was frustrating to to go back and forth from BPT and not play.

I could understand that, hopefully he gets some time this season

I doubt it. I want them to struggle early so they get desperate and are forced to play the kids

In desperation, the isles would move Brass up to line one and park Leddy with Pulock. Probably start Cory Schnieder too

There’s no way he doesn’t play the full season (barring injury.) He’s too good

I agree. He’s the only puck mover on the isles blue line. They need him....but you know trotz is going to bench sometimes just like he does to barzal

This is probably it depending on injuries, opt outs, covid positives.

Maybe I am in the minority but I would take Greene-Dobson over Toews-Boychuck.

I get the sentiment but there’s no way he signs a 2 year deal that quickly into the offseason without some essential guarantee he’s bare minimum the 7th dman and likely getting in a 6 rotation.. right?? Knowing trotz definitely not gonna be the case but the logic has to be right

Aho? Staple isn’t right about everything but he stated “Aho is a very good Dman but doesn’t seem to be a fit what the coach wants , at least right now” I think Aho will be the 7D, but will he get in any games? I doubt it. We also have Vande sompel who obviously needs time in BPT, but he’s pretty close to NHL ready.
