Islanders would have signed Barnaal a long time ago if they could have him agree to 7 million dollar contract imo. Yeah I realize it’s a bridge deal you are suggesting but I feel Barzal and his agent are looking for 7 or 8 year deal.

The reason I don't think that is true is because right now the isles only have 4M in cap. They could go over and then put Boychuk on LTIR before the season starts but I don't think Lou would want to put them in a situation like that barring any potential complications. If boychuk isn't on LTIR now after saying he can never play ever again I wonder why. I'm also not sure if Barzy wants a 7/8 year deal with the flat cap. Sign a bridge contract and max out when he can put the price through the roof, that's what I'd do but I'm trash at hockey lmao

You make some good points. Maybe 3 x 7 million isn’t to far off. What do any of us AGM know!

I’m pretty sure it was always the plan to put boychuk on LTIR after barzal signs

My guess is Barzal takes a Bridge deal. He’ll get a bigger contract down the road and I get a feeling they only have another two or three years before their core of Nelson/Bailey/Eberle start losing their touch. Sure, they’re not stars, but they’re great depth players and the Isles rely on them heavily as a group. If Barzal wants a Cup, he’d be better off leaving a bit more cap space for Lou to work with this TDL.
