results time!

These were taken from a sample of 32 standings predictions. I only considered where each person placed a team. I tracked the following stats for each team: Average, Std Dev, Median, Highest Pos and Lowest Pos

NORTH:
northdiv.pngnorthgraph.png

Generally, Toronto was at the top of table, and no one had them outside a playoff spot. Likewise, the Senators were handed to lowest spot in most predictions. Outside the two Ontario teams, there were a number of different arrangements on where the middle 5 would end up. Most people generally had the Flames, Oilers and Canadiens in higher positions.

The consensus leads to Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Montreal being the playoff teams, with Vancouver and Winnipeg just missing out while Ottawa lags behind.

EAST:

eastdiv.pngeastgraph.png

There's a lot going on here. Six teams were ranked first by at least one person and out of the playoffs by another. The only constant was the Devils, who end up with the lowest deviation in rank out of all the teams. Philadelphia appears to be the favorable pick from this selection of teams, being ranked more often than not first in the division. Their cross-state rivals were ranked unfavorably, ending up being dropped out of the playoffs on most occasions.

The consensus suggests that Philadelphia gets a division title, with Washington and Boston following. The Islanders push Pittsburgh out of the playoffs. The Rangers and Buffalo will lag behind the playoff race, and New Jersey is completely out of it.

CENTRAL:

centraldiv.pngcentralgraph.png

The champions are the winners here by a large margin. Carolina comes in at a comfortable second. The next four teams are the ones in the mix for this division. Dallas is more often than not slotted into a playoff position. Columbus and Nashville have the biggest deviations, with the former being given a first place finish by someone. The Original Six teams are scraping the bottom of the barrel, with only a handful of people suggesting the Red Wings might best the Blackhawks.

The consensus is - Tampa first, Carolina second. Dallas fights for a third-place position. Columbus inches out Nashville for the last spot, while Florida lags behind considerably. Chicago unceremoniously finishes higher than Detroit.

WEST:

westdiv.pngwestgraph.png

The table tells you that there is a major divide here. The first three places will go to one of powerhouse teams, with the rest scrambling for a token spot in the playoffs. The Avalanche were given the top spot by most. The Blues were slotted third more often than not. The rest of the division is anyones guess - no one really knew where to put Minnesota. The SoCal teams aren't held in high regard. People seem to split on the Sharks bouncing back or bottoming out. The Coyotes exist.

The consensus here is - Colorado wins the division closely followed by Vegas. St Louis finishes in a safe third. Arizona squeaks out the fourth position, just barely ahead of Minnesota and San Jose. Anaheims best only their rivals in Los Angeles.

---

So again, this is a sample of users on this website on how the season will go. It'll be interesting to revisit when the playoffs start to see how we did collectively.

If you can find a way to do this for the playoffs that would be great. Other than that awesome job putting this together, this is awesome!

Very interesting. Can Vegas win with **** center depth though? Not many teams have won it all without center depth.

I'm picking the Devils to finish 5th in East. I don't think anyone else has them higher than 8th, lol.

NORTH
1. Toronto
2. Calgary
3. Montreal
4. Edmonton
5. Vancouver
6. Winnipeg
7. Ottawa

EAST
1. Philadelphia
2. Washington
3. Boston
4. Pittsburgh
5. New York I
6. Buffalo
7. New York R
8. New Jersey

CENTRAL
1. Tampa Bay
2. Carolina
3. Dallas
4. Florida
5. Nashville
6. Columbus
7. Chicago
8. Detroit

WEST
1. Colorado
2. St Louis
3. Vegas
4. San Jose
5. Arizona
6. Anaheim
7. Minnesota
8. Los Angeles

Said in another thread, but 3-5 in North is interchangable. 4-7 in the East is probably going to a toss-up too,

Believe that the West is going to be the top 3 teams destroying the division and the other 5 fighting for the last spot. Don't really care about what happens in Central.

After last night I would put Washington in the 4-7 rn the islander sna philly look like 1-2 and we have 2-6 that are a toss up and then rangers and devils.

Hey, remember this?

We're at halfway point of the season right now and I'll do an update once everyone crosses 28 games. Should be early next week. Will only consider the first 28 games for each team.

So far, the biggest surprises (in a good way) are WPG in the North (by far). Most had them 5th or 6th. NYI in the East. The East has been fairly predictable. FLA and CHI have been huge surprises to most of our Central predictions, but pretty much everyone had CHI in 7th. In the West, it's been LAK. Almost everyone picked them to finish last. I deeply apologize to those of you who picked them 7th.

Alright, got around to this.

I've taken the point percentage for all teams up to their 28th game this season, and ranked them based on where they position. Additionally, tiebreakers aren't being used. I've tabled the difference in position compared to the average, as well as the number of people who have that position correct.

Let's start with the North:
northdiv28.png

Biggest surprise is the Jets who are in 2nd place. Overall this has been the most predictable division so far.

In the West:
westdiv28.png

No one got Minnesota, Los Angeles or St Louis in their current positions.

In Central:
centraldiv28.png

Florida is a massive surprise being tied for first, no one up them higher than third. Chicago's also exceeding expectations.

Lastly, in the East:
eastdiv28.png

Yes, you're reading that right. No one put Buffalo finishing 8th.

Canada: Tor, Jets, MTL, EDM, VAN, CGY, OTT
East: NYI, PIT, WSH, BOS, PHI, BUF, NYR, NJD
Central: CBJ, NSH, TB, CAR, DAL, FLA, CHI, DET
West: COL, STL, Vegas, MN, AZ, SJS, ANA, LA (4th-8th is really a tossup)

I didn't have the right order but I've done pretty well with the teams in and out of the Playoffs.
-CBJ/FLA is the only big miss.
-I still think STL takes a Playoff spot over AZ in the West.
-NSH/DAL is a tossup still, but I think NSH holds on and take the last Playoff spot.

West: Colorado, Vegas, STL, Anaheim, Arizona, Minny, SJS, LAK
I did these off the top of my head and it was hard to rank 4-8 of the Pacific

Man did I underestimate Winnipeg, Chicago, Florida and Minny, also How did I have Nashville, Philly, and Calgary that high
