I like what Bill Armstrong is thinking here. The "tear it all down" consensus with ACGMs here is stupid, especially with the revoked picks. Despite Chayka's flaws, you can build a decent team with the core that he left behind, especially with Kuemper and Raanta there standing on their heads, and I still see them as a borderline playoff team in the Pacific. After the defensive contracts of Goligoski/Hammer/Demers expire this year, you can bring up one or both of Capobianco and Soderstrom and acquire a nice veteran piece to compliment them. It's not as much of a mess as the CW perceives it to be.

the more I look at this deal the more I have to think this is a good signing for teams looking for cheap deals. Does Haula really pull down more than this?
I don't think he does.

Hard to imagine this is a cap team with zero star power. I don't think there's a team in the entire NHL that has a worse 5 year outlook. They're good defensively, but old and I think Darcy banks them out constantly. They don't have a single contract over $5M that looks good right now.

Luckily, all the contracts over $5M expire after this season (except Kessel). Fail to see how that’s a bad 5 year outlook.

Weak prospect system. OEL contract isn't terrible, but it's certainly not good. Same with Keller. Yotes have not dated well at all. I'd much rather have ANA, LAK, DET, or OTT prospect pool. This team desperately needs a dynamic playmaker and they have no 1st rounder again next summer.

Cheap signing. Fits within the cap for the Coyotes and gives them depth when in a season you have a game every 2.1 days with this schedule. Every team is going to need all the depth they can get.
