It’s probably an overpay, but not as much as it seems on first glance. The three prospects are, a smallish middle6 left shot winger and two depth defencemen, one LD and one RD. The 1st helps, but understand, Carlo is a finished product, ready to contribute for a lot of years. He’s been a top4 defenceman since he was 19. He was a 2nd round pick, but a successful pick that in a redraft will be placed much higher. Consider him a 1st round pick that dropped into Boston’s lap. The first and the prospects probably is close in value, but not enough to entice Boston to trade Carlo. The 2nd and 3rd make it an overpay, but that doesn’t make Boston accept.

Boston fans would know better than me, but are you guys ready to trade off an important piece for prospects and picks, even if it’s an overpay?

For the player themself its most likely an overpay. But factoring in the situation, its probably not the kinda deal BOS would be into. They have no reason to trade Carlo, he fills a role, hes young, hes cost controlled to an extent (1 year left - still RFA). Unless a roster player is coming back to contribute in the present, I cant see them letting him go for prospects/picks. If they were looking to sell guys and head for a rebuild, it would be some of the older guys on the block (Krejci ex.) . I love Hoglander, and think Rathbone can be a player, and i think the value isnt underselling at all, it just may not be the direction BOS wants to go in.

Sorry @sensibleguy I shouldve quoted yours as well. As a BOS fan this is where my head is at.

Vancouver can't gamble the future potential of Rathbone and Hoglander. Carlo is a good D-man, who is going to sign a much larger contract next year (which Van would struggle to afford), and this would take a large swipe out of the Canucks pretty bright prospect future.

value wise yea, certainly fair. But just makes 0 sense to trade one of our better Dmen for futures in the window to win. Hughes/ Carlo pairing would be nasty though

Hoffman wont sign in Vancouver for that term

Vancouver, if they had that money wouldn't spend it on Hoffman...

Just not smart for either
