Don't get too excited, that was literally a massive discount because of their terrible cap situation.

That Vrana signing means you won’t have room for Suzuki or Romanov the year after

Cirelli was an RFA with zero arbitration rights, Danault is a pending UFA, completely different. If anything Pageau set the market for Danault

Cirelli was a rfa, playing in no tax & sunny tampa, fresh off a Stanley cup on a cash strapped team. I don’t think Danault signs that to be Montreal’s third line centre.

Not really, its a bridge deal. Cirelli had no argument for getting much more since his production was half of Point's in their respective contract years

Unfortunately it’s not the market setting for Danault. The good Cirelli deal had 2 advantages for TBL that won’t apply to Danault.

1.) he’s an RFA with team control and the contract guarantees he gets at least 7.2 mil base in his next deal.
2.) he’s playing in Florida which enjoys no state income tax which means the equivalent deal (almost) anywhere else in the league would be 5.3 mil (roughly)

Danault is gonna get at least 5.5, and probably more when he hits UFA status.

Cirelli signed an RFA bridge deal, Danault will be signing his last bigger UFA deal, big difference.

Couturier makes 4.3, so I’m not sure Selke candidate is a good piece of evidence of a discount. Honestly, it’s a fair bridge deal that guarantees he gets market before he goes UFA. Good deal for both sides.

You don’t understand what a bridge deal is don’t you ? It’s not a discount, neither is Sergachev or McAvoy or Werenski. Bridge deal, next contract is the big payday

You're an idiot. Look at the bridge deals of Tkachuk, Point, Laine, etc. Aside from Tkachuk, those guys a higher caliber player, but they did not take team friendly bridges in the slightest. Next year there will be better examples.

Cirelli is easily worth 5.5M on a bridge deal. Sergachev, Cirelli, McAvoy, Werenski, etc are all players who took team friendly and discount bridge deals. They all proved enough before hand to get more money on a bridge.

It's not that hard to figure out...

Cirelli isnt a 1C, he isnt worth 5.5M on a bridge deal. He wouldnt be worth 7M on 8 years

Reply to boggsauce,

When Suzuki and Romanov become RFA’s:

1. Chiarot will be gone and frees up $3.5M
2. Webers salary drops to $1M in 2023. I hope that he will retire and the Cap Hit goes back to Nashville .
