Really good value as long as he doesn't regress too much from last year. I don't see CHI being competitive at all but he could be good deadline trade bait

Love the signing. Solid defensive forward. With $1M cap hit he'll be a TDL trade and won't require retention.

GMJR took to long again lul. Another talent gone. Honestly I think Chicago is racking up cheap contracts for good players to sell at the deadline.

I expect Wallmark, Soderberg and others to go for value so chicago can acquire lots of picks for 2021 draft

Great deal, solid bottom 6 center who will be most likely gone at the deadline

Much better offensively than most people think, could fetch a 2nd maybe at the TDL if he doesn't regress

Couldn't agree more. PIT could have run with McCann / Soderberg / Lafferty on the 3rd line and been in great shape. Hell of a fast line with 3 guys who can play a 200ft game and have some decent scoring ability.

As a Leafs fan I hated the idea of signing Thornton and trading Kerfoot as depending on Thornton at 41 was to scary. But if we could have had Thornton and Soderberg? I'd have done it

Great depth piece; Chicago is really hedging their bets with Soderberg, Wallmark, Janmark, Carpenter, Kampf, all of which could get moved for picks at the TDL

This is most likely what he's doing. Guys like that can fetch a pick or two, maybe even a better one if the Hawks so generously retain salary.

True. They can only retain on 1 more contract though...3 on a team at 1 time.

CRAP.... I was hoping the Penguins would grab him. Now that he is off the market there is no solid 3C for us to get.

I absolutely love this signing. Soderberg is almost never injured and he scored 17G last season on arguably the league's worst offensive team. He's been very consistent aside from that season in Colorado when they were all terrible. He could be flipped for a pick/prospect at the deadline or simply provide the Hawks with some nice secondary scoring. A+

I'd probably take Soderberg ($1,000,000) over Simmonds ($1,500,000) right now (Leafs fan).

I could be wrong though. Simmonds is 3 years younger and New Jerseys offense was extremely anemic last year.

Simmonds actually ended up 6th in points per game among forwards last year (ahead of Jack Hughes with less TOI).

So maybe Wayne's still got some in the tank.

Waynes a Toronto boy, Soderberg is not.

I'd prefer Soderberg over Simmonds personally but it is what it is.

Disagree with this signing. Blackhawks have plethora of players for the same spot. And don't be too optimistic of his trade value, guys. Wouldn't be surprised if you get half of expected value for him. Next negative is he will put some regular player on the bench if he plays to team's expectations.

With Toews and Dach out for the foreseeable future and Strome unsigned, is Söderberg Chicago's 1C? If he gets significant ice time with Kane / DeBrincat he'll really boost his value for the deadline trade you guys are talking about.

Shaw and ADB can play center I think, and now they’ll probably rush to sign Strome since they need him

I'm sure that's not the goal...I'd rather have Strome continue to develop, but thats certain a solid plan B.
