Compare the stats in the regular season if you must. Considering that's the only thing we can go on.
They are both old and past their prime, Perry is older, but age isn't a direct correlation to regression or current skill.
The 4th thing is pretty stupid. If Hoffman was so good, why did the Blues try to pay simmonds >1.5M to get him on october 9th, then hem and haw all offseason and finally begrudgingly get Hoffman on a PTO like 5 days before training camp?
remembering the dallas was a cup contending team where perry got to play sheltered 4th line minutes and simmonds was on two dumpster fire teams playing overexposed minutes in the middle 6
also, i don't understand the hoffman thing. hoffman was being picky about his contract and where he wanted to go, no teams had cap space to give him $6+ million. He also has value, i.e. a 31 year old 30 goal scorer. He decided to wait around and finally now the blues are signing him to a 3.5-4.5 one year deal, but using a PTO to get LTIR cap relief etc. etc. and save some money.
the habs wanted a tough guy veteran, day 1 of free agency who did they beeline for? wayne simmonds, they even offered him north of $1.5 million to come to montreal. They were gonna overpay him because they wanted him that bad, a washed up 4th liner.
He took less money and came to toronto, and who was the habs' plan B? evidently not perry, otherwise you'd think they'd've signed him right away, no? they waited until right before camp before signing him to a league min nothing deal.
again, both are washed up and not nearly as good as they once were, but it's ironic that your team heavily favoured our guy over the guy you currently have right now
