Very little downside here, so good signing. If he does well he either becomes part of the longer term plan or is moved at the deadline. What's not to like?

Iffy deadline trade for sure, however but for the flat cap induced by the pandemic, he'd be with us on a QO 1 year trial run I think. Happy to have Kahun for cheaper instead

If by any chance he gets back to his 18-19 ways in Detroit, this signing Could be steal of the Offseason, if gets a chance to play with Vilardi or Kopitar. LA might do better than people think

He’s an RFA at the end of the contract, so maybe not.

I don’t think he bounces back to his 30 goal Detroit days, probably 12-15 depending on his ice time, but he has great speed and hopefully he can find his game again with LA. Good luck AA!

The star actor with a heart condition is emoting at the end of the first act. As his performance reaches its peak, he clutches at his chest and dies, and the curtain comes down. The audience is shocked into silence.

The stage manager steps out from behind the curtain and says, Ladies and Gentlemen, we are sorry to announce that tonight's performance is over. Our star has been extinguished and he has gone to the heavens.

From the balcony comes an elderly woman's voice: Give him an enema!

The stage manager says, Madame, you don't understand, we cannot go on, our star is no longer with us.

"Give him an enema!" she repeats.

The stage manager says, "Madame, our star is dead. Giving him an enema cannot possibly help."

The old lady says, "Couldn't hurt!"

AA had a chance to earn a big pay day with EDM. Now he's back to square one and he needs to re-establish his game. He'll get every opportunity in LA, especially w/ Coach TM's high shot volume system.

The amount of quality centers in this organization right now is astounding lol. Kopitar, Carter, Byfield, Turcotte, Vilardi, Madden, now Athanasiou.

Kopitar is one of the mist underrated Centers of the last decade. So good all around. But Carter is basically a bad 3rd liner at this point who cant defend anymore. Byfield should've gone outside the top 5. Can he develop into a superstar? Absolutely. But he's super high-risk. I like Turcotte as a future #2 Center. Vilardi has the highest upside, besides Byfield. he could be an elite Center. Madden will be a perennial 40-50 point player but probably won't be a Center, imo. AA will also play Wing, but I absolutely love this signing. He'll score 20G for sure this season. I'm just not sure if he's worth a long term extension. He's already 26 and the rest of the core is 18-21. We'll see.

I don't get this signing for either the player or the team.

For the player, if you are a guy who needs to turn it around...why the hell would you go to LA.
If you are LA, what difference does it make, offer league minimum.

Player: I suspect he tried to hold out for more money, and now that it wasn't offered he settled on who still had the cap space to offer him this

LA: LA should absolutely be making signings like this. They should make as many low risk/high upside moves as they can. If it fails/shrug waive him. No harm done. If it succeeds they have a new building block just entering his prime

If you are the player, risking the rest of your career for a few hundred thousand is a very poor decision. Best landing place over more money. You might not get another chance after this.

As for LA, why? There isn't much here to be gained by LA. It's a 1 year deal if he plays well he probably leaves or LA makes the mistake of signing him to a larger contract based on 1 year. Like I said. Offer league minimum and walk away if he doesn't take it. It's not like LA is trying to compete.
