He's going to lose him in the expansion draft so he trades him for something instead. Funny that he didn't include who he lost in the draft though. Having signed Barrie for 5.5 mil, its pretty good odds he lost Nurse and if not Nurse, Jones.

I like Klefbom but Ottawa has Chabot who plays 26 minutes a night, and Wolanin, Reilly and Colburn (and Brannstrom?) competing for the 2 remaining LHD spots. They might not be the team to target. That being said, if the offer were more reasonable I could be convinced; Tierney and a 2nd is far too steep a price for a team not in need of a first pairing LHD.

Maybe he signed those players after the expansion draft.

Buying out Kris Russell makes no sense at all. A, you have the cap space for his $1.5M cap hit, and B) burying him in the minors results in the same cap savings year 1 with a $400k savings year 2.

History has shown us teams are hesitant to let players go to UFA due to the expansion draft with the idea of re-signing them.

There's a week between Expansion Draft and Free Agency with which to sign your own UFA's. San Jose didn't protect their captain, Joe Thornton, in the Vegas draft, because they had no worries that he would sign with them.

In any case, I'm only saying that it looks like that's what the OP had planned.

If Klefbom is healthy I don't see how this could possibly be construed as a "bad trade" for Ottawa, LMAO. And if not he'll be on LTIR and any trade won't "help" Edmonton from a cap perspective anyhow. Pretty funny that you can't understand these simple concepts.
