Description

I’m hearing a rumor that toews may actually be suffering something along the lines of Lyme disease or mono. He’s been rundown and lethargic since the playoffs ended for the hawks and has apparently been trying to get a grip and understanding of his condition. Here’s the scarier possibility: a doctor friend of mine claims that a lot of his (very vague) symptoms, sound like depression. I really hope whatever it is toews continues to get the help he needs, cuz this obviously goes beyond sport when we talk about health.

Completely agree. This team definitely has a few years of pure tanking to go through. I fear that for toews and even Kane, reality might be setting in that they can’t win a cup again here.

Lyme disease is no joke. Bieber got it and it wreaked havoc. It can be a pretty serious illness. I'm not sure mono has such long lingering effects. It could still technically be COVID and we're just seeing chronic symptoms despite eradication of the virus. Depression...sure but as you mentioned symptoms are vague and with vagueness comes a wide variety of possibilities. Depression would be the "last" thing to consider since there's no blood tests for it. Best to rule out the things you can with tests and scans and if nothing else then figure to try the depression route.

Very true. Just be safe and get every shrewd of information you can. Lyme disease is very intense, and mono actually does have long term effects that actually don’t dissipate for close to 6 months in some cases. As far as depression goes, I really do wonder if faltering for 3 years and now going into a rebuild may be taking its toll on him.

Hockey slump aside too, depression is an equal opportunity evil. We never know what people are battling in their personal lives (think Robin Williams) and despite all of that, depression can still rear it's ugly head.

And yeah, you're right about the mono thing.

Didn't Toews switch to a vegan diet two or three years ago? If so could it be something related to that I wonder.

A girl I went to school with got Lyme disease and what she went through was fu*king scary! Hope that Toews doesn't have that though he'll have the funds to get the best treatment America has to offer if its that rather then Canada's system which had my old friend in what can only be like described as living through a nightmare, thankfully she's getting the treatment she needs now.
