The problem with the rebuild is the cap space those guys have. It makes it almost impossible even if you wanted to. Just weaponize the temporary cap space you have before the season starts and then again at the TDL with pending UFAs

Alright, well if we’re going to explore this, lets explore it. What would you put in that bruins trade?

I don’t know if the Bruins can pull it off but I used them as a place holder team. I think they’d want an A level prospect in the deal and then another B+ Prospect. But maybe if you included Debrusk , they’ll only take a B+ like Vaak/Beecher

David Poille is desperate to win a cup in his lifetime (he's 70).

    Preds have cap space.

Sure the roster may not look like a legit contender, but adding Kane as I've suggested in the past makes them a much better team for scoring which is something they've lacked for whatever reason.

So I say move him there in a deal like this:

    Nashville Predators
    Patrick Kane
    Malcom Subban
    2021 6th round pick (CHI)

    Chicago Blackhawks
    Philip Tomasino
    Calle Jarnkrok
    Juuse Saros
    2021 1st round pick (NSH)
2022 3rd round pick (NSH) - becomes a 2022 1st if Nashville wins the cup in either playoffs before then.

I'll take a lot of flack for this (any Kane deal does) but remember a few things:
    1. very few contending teams have the space to take on Kane which limits the market for him
    2. Chicago didn't have to retain any of Kane's cap hit in the deal. If they were to retain, they could get more but I don't think Kane is the guy to retain on. Toews is if they move him.
    3. Chicago gets a B+/A- prospect, a young starting goalie who's an upgrade over their horrid tandem now, plus multiple picks
    4. This still leaves Nashville with about $2.5M in cap space (depending on Kunin signing) with a full roster
    5. The deal is compared to the Phil Kessel trade from Toronto to Pitsburgh. Both Toronto and Chicago were in a rebuild with a highly paid winger to be moved. Chicago gets more in this deal actually cause they get virtually 4 guaranteed NHLers and $10.5M in cap space without retaining (Toronto retained on Kessel)

I don't see them getting more than this for Kane, as good as some people argue he is. That's not the only thing that determines a player's value.

With Tomasino in the deal, this is a very exciting package. Also, Chicago could really use Saros

It's a sight overpay, but any team trying to get Kane will have to overpay to outbid the other suitors. But it seems to work for both sides. I worked it out on Nashville's side a few months back here:

I don't think the value is far off but i see two big hurdles. 1. Kane waiving his nmc to go anywhere really. And 2. Chicago trading THE face of the franchise to a division rival.
For a guy that gets promoted after multiple losing seasons i think even stan bowman's job wouldn't be safe if he didn't get the perfect return for Kane.

I don't see either of those as major hurdles.
    1. If Kane wants to keep winning, he'll waive no problem. Chicago is likely 4+ years away from competing and Kane doesn't even have a contract then. He could re-sign there after if he wants.
    2. When you're in a rebuild, you don't worry about the team you're trading with. You take the beta value you can get. Plus Leafs traded their captain to Ottawa in their rebuild, so that's not an issue at all

I think Kane has his eye on the fanchise points record. He's won 3 cups already but to be the leading point getter on an original 6 team passing mikita would be a huge accomplishment.

Interesting, but unfortunately (fortunately?) bruins dont have any overpaid roster players lol. Also Kanes cap is too big and for too long still so its not gonna cost that much to get him as is.
Regardless, the bruins decline unless some cap is being retained as well.

I dont think bruins would want to give up what the Hawks would want in return, and thats because if they did it wouldnt be worth it for the bruins. A different team might be more suitable but not sure

    Interesting, but tough overall

Im guessing they most likely trade here would be: (based on what you said)

John Moore, Jack Studnicka, Urho Vaakanienen, and a 1st
    For
    Patrick Kane

But the bruins wouldnt do this cuz it just KILLLLLS their future in terms of prospects and cap space so the logical correction would be:

John Moore, Jack Studnicka, Jakub Zboril, and a 1st
    For
    Patrick Kane (50% retained)

But I am guessing Hawks reject that as they believe its not enough value and too much retention. So it seems like a crossroads that couldnt be crossed

Highly unlikely Kane would waive for anywhere but very highly doubtful for Nashville. He will want to play for a top market, one that is a contender such as a Vegas, or possibly go to Buffalo; otherwise he won't leave Chicago.

Seabrook is not tradable and the Hawks have cap space unlike other years so not as much of a need vs a ideal want
