Isn't Dahlen playing in the second tier league in Sweden though?

He’s playing in Allsvenskan the 2nd tier league where he is easily the best player in the league for two years now. Sj still holds his rights and have long anticipated to sign him and bring him over after this season in Sweden is over.

Caveat: Dahlen will not come to NA unless he is on an NHL team so he must be guaranteed a role with the sharks to come over at all and there is no guarantee he’ll be better than Chmelevski, Leonard or even Chekhovich (who is killing it in the KHL this year) but he’s still got top six upside. I think we will see him on the Sharks before the season is over.

SJ still holds his rights either way for this year.

It's not a good look to have an "I'm not going to play in the AHL" attitude, especially when you're 23 and can't even stick in the top Swedish League. He's clearly skilled, but he's done nothing to endear himself to him NHL clubs over the years. He's got to make it to the SHL and show he can be a star there before he's going to get the chance to come straight to the NHL like he thinks he's entitled to.

I think if he ever does come over, it will be a situation where he comes over as a UFA in his late 20s. Similar to guys like Dadonov or Gusev.

He refused every offer from the SHL because he is so attached to playing for Timrå.

I agree that attitude is childish which i why i think the Sharks will give every opportunity for Chmelevski, Leonard and Blichfeld to make the team over Dahlen. I was always turned off by JD’s NHL or nothing philosophy. That said, he has the ability to be an impact player in the NHL.

need to consider the fact that ahl starts way later than Swedish league had. waiting for AHL wouldn't be good for his development

Yeah Timra is his home town team. They have a promotion/relegation process in Swedish hockey, and the plan was last year he would carry them up into the SHL, but they unfortunately failed, so he wants get his local team into the SHL before leaving
