Bad trade for Minnesota, that's not enough for Spurgeon right now.

Yeah, that is very wishful thinking for the Jets.

I'm not a fan of the back end of Spurgeon's contract, but right now - and for the foreseeable future - he's worth every penny. Legitimately one of the best Dmen in the league. Wild say no, imo.

Spurgeon might be a top 10 Dman in the league right now, so Ima guess they say no.

I'd take it from MN, but I despise Spurgeon's contract and want it gone.

The odds of Jared Spurgeon waiving his NMC 0%, And besides that doesn't get him anyways.

Spurgeon from the comments above should be a multiple Norris trophy finalist. C’mon everyone he is 31 years old with an huge contract of over 50 million dollars. Another small defenseman ( listed at 5’9 And 170 lbs) is just what the Jets DON’T need. For you Minny fans who say this is a bad trade for your team ,I dare say it would be a far worse trade for the Jets. Short term Spurgeon would definitely be an asset, long term we would regret that contract as most likely Minny will . When you think of it most long term deals for players in their early 30’s usually backfire in the last half of their contracts ( see Subban / Parise/ Neal / Lucic. ........... wouldn’t be surprised the Jets regret the last 2 years of Wheeler at 8.2 million. But I understand why they signed him at the time.

Even if you don't like the term of Spurgeon's contract, this is still Minnesota trading an elite dman for a 3rd liner who recently requested a trade and Pionk who is simply not close to as good as 46, and it's not a debate. Still a good defenseman, just not on Spurgeon's level

So if Winnipeg plans on competing now, they do this everyday of the week. Not only is the value in their favour, but it also helps them accomplish what they want to do now, and that's win. This is a substantial upgrade for them

But this isn't even worth a debate, as Spurgeon wouldn't even consider waiving his NMC

This is a substantial upgrade for them it may be. But not a good fit as we already have too many smaller D-Man is the point I am trying to make. Keep him he is not worth it long term imo. If everyone agreed on the same thing life would be boring........

What's funny is Pionk has more points in a season than Spurgeon has ever had. They also have the same number of 40p seasons.

I agree it's a trade the Jets shouldn't make.

Funny that points are nowhere near the only or best way to evaluate players. Especially dmen

When it's comparing offensive d-men it's something that's worth consideration. Also when you're a d-man making $7.5m not getting 40p a season don't look so great. It's not like Spurgeon is a shutdown d-man, he can't carry a weaker d-man, and can't stay healthy.

MN (never should have re-signed him) should dump him the first chance they get. He'll be in the Burns/Seabrook category of overpaid 30+ RD very soon.

He carries a weaker dman every game. Suter isn't what he used to be, there's a reason he threw a fit when he had to play with Dumba and demanded Spurgeon be his partner.
