The Caps need players for NOW while Ovechkin's window is still open. This trade is the reverse of that.

I'm not sure why people keep trading Kuznetsov anyway. If the Caps were going to move him it would have been during the nose candy days.

This would be good for the future for the caps but they are in a win-now mode and they might only have 1 or maybe 2 years left to have a chance to give Ovi a second cup so they would never do that. I honestly don’t see Ovi resigning with them in that case as they are clearly not a contender anymore without argueably their best center. Also Ovi wouldn’t be happy to see a good friend like Kuznetsov leaving and you’ll wanna keep Ovi happy so you could have him having another 50 goal pace season.
