I would do that in a heart beat if i were the jets, not too sure Calgary would do it without a bit more of a kicker

Chicago can get more for Murphy

The Bennett for Roslovic is interesting. Bennett is a little more gritty, but Roslovic should produce a little bit more. Elias Lindholm is Calgary's only right shot forward in the top9. I can see these teams making this trade.

good luck with that. Likely wouldn't get more than a 3rd round pick.

Using the Nate Schmidt trade as a comparable. Schmidt is far better than Murphy in every aspect of play. Vegas had to move Schmidt to be cap compliant, but if Chicago doesn't move Murphy they lose him for nothing to Seattle. If someone offered a 2nd round pick, take it and run. You're not getting anymore than that Hawks fans.

Kinda my thought. Rosy provides the offence, maybe the link with Johnny and Monny, while Lindholm plays with Tkachuk and Mangiapane. We then provide more grit to go with Lowry and Copp. It gives us a 3C insurance for next year if we lose Lowry

How in the world is this a comp to you?!?! Vegas was FORCED to drop cap. FORCED! With Toews going to LTIR they have ~$20M+ in cap space. Terrible example. Bredy Skjei is a far worse defenseman...costs more...and got a 1st. There's a better comp.

Why not let Heinola get some games instead of trading for Murphy? The kid looks like he might be ready for the big league.

did you not read what I wrote?

If Chicago doesn't trade Murphy they lose him for nothing to Seattle. So they're FORCED to move him or get nothing for him. I never said it had anything to do with their cap. But both teams are FORCED to move the player, it lowers their value. Plus Schmidt is way better than Murphy so even with Chicago FORCED to move Murphy for expansion draft reasons, a 3rd round pick would be pretty good for a bottom pair d-man

You're smarter than this. You act like CHI is desperate and they're not. Why can't they go 8 players??? Why couldn't Seabs wave??? Why couldn't CHI and SEA work something out??? All valid options

When a team is FORCED to trade someone away...they get hosed. Like CHI did. CAR took Turbo while accepting Bickell. You need to do a better job of understanding situations.

Nothing guarantees Seabrook waives. You wanna protect 8 skaters just to protect Murphy? Okay. Murphy, Keith, Zadorov, Seabrook (can't guarantee he waives), Toews, Kane, Debrincat, Kubalik.. looks like you're losing 1 of Strome or Nylander cause they likely won't take de Haan for nothing. All because you wanted to be stubborn and not lose a 3rd pairing d-man.
Or you protect 7-3 and protect Toews, Kane, Kubalik, DeBrincat, Strome, Nylander, (whatever other bottom 6 garbage player Bowman likes), Keith, Seabrook, and Zadorov (likely hun over Murphy since they just traded for him).

Take of the bias glasses and see that Chicago is in a tough spot if Seabrook doesn't waive. You can't guarantee a guy at the end of his career would want to go to a expansion team that likely won't be competing anytime soon.

Sorry, but if being dumb is to trade Murphy for a small return (as his value is anyways) over losing him for nothing or forcing myself to lose another younger, better asset because of him, then Murphy is moved in a heart beat.

CHI is NOT in a tough spot...unless you're talking about winning hockey games. Then yeah, but not with Seattle. EVERY team has to solve for Seattle and the Hawks are in much better shape than most teams. Especially considering all of their other options currently within their team. Murphy is the Hawks BEST RD. Skjei has a larger cap hit...worse contract...longer term of a worse cap hit...and got a 1st. This is a much better comp than Schmidt.

& the Skeji deal was before the pandemic and the flat cap. Bet you forgot about that with those glasses on eh? The market has changed because of it. Hawks will be lucky to get a 3rd and a mediocre prospect. But I'm done debating with bias fans. There's no point.

Actually this would only be true if the expansion draft was today, but it isn't. Chicago has plenty of time to decide what to do, and that includes trading one or both of Seabrook or Keith.

Hawks will dump dehaan or let seattle take him. We can just opt to protect 8 skaters. Toews, Kane, Strome, Debrincat, Kieth, Seabs, Zadorov, Murphy. Kubalik, Dach, Boqvist, etc. will all be exempt as 1st or 2nd year players. Seattle can chose from nylander, shaw or dehaan
