Trade idea

Created by: OutCold13
Team: 2020-21 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 22, 2020
Published: Dec. 30, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just a trade thought. I kinda think Wild are over paying here but since young centers are at a premium I assume the Wild would be getting the more expensive end of the trade.
Trades
MIN
  1. Goligoski, Alex
  2. Hayton, Barrett
  3. Hossa, Marián
Additional Details:
Wild do this so they can protect 10 in the expansion draft.
Please offer suggestions on how to make this a better trade or if it's just dumb.
ARI
  1. Bonino, Nick ($2,050,000 retained)
  2. Dumba, Matt
  3. Khovanov, Alexander
Additional Details:
Arizona does this because 1 it saves them some money and 2 playing Dumba next to Ekman-Larsson could help Ekman-Larsson rediscover his game.

Wild are probably overpaying a little, but Arizona doesn't do this either. They're looking for high end centers too, and Hayton is their only shot.

Ideally I’d target him too. Fits better with our timeline and the game we play.

Dumba to ARI would make some sense because they could protect him in the ED and he makes them better. It’s hard to see them giving up Dvorak though, his contract would be a boon for MIN.

The Wild should be fine at centre for the future. Rossi projects to be a high end future 1C and Khusnutdinov should be an excellent 2C. Hayton wont really help the team too much especially at the expense of Dumba and Khovanov

This would be a gross overpayment by the wild. Haytom being the only thing the wild would want. He’s probably on par with dumba for value and not significantly better projected than khovanov. It would be like hayton and a 1st for dumba and khovanov. That would make sense if goligoski needs to be added for cap that would need a bit more to the wild.

3 centers with a combined total of 28 NHL games played. What could possibly go wrong? MN shouldn't touch that trade, they are fine for the expansion draft with 8 skaters.

Addison + Khovanov for Hayton is more what I'd be looking for. Add in Bjugstad or MarJo (retained) if AZ wanted.

Dvorak is a 2/3 type C playing up in the lineup cause he's the best option they have

I'd like to get Dvorak in MN. I wouldn't give up Dumba for him though.

JEE, Dvorak, Rossi as the centers and each get one of Fiala, Kaprizov, and Boldy as a wing. That would be a good young FWD core for the next 5+ years.

If it was Dvorak +, I’d do that for Dumba all day long but even 1 for 1 I’d consider it since it opens up some cap breathing room through the end of the Parise/Suter deals.

But Dvorak or JEE working the defensive side of things for Fiala and Rossi creating for KK is super enticing. That leaves a super competent 3C to check with Greenway and Beckman, I don’t hate it.

He’s a top 6 player. He’s a 1C due to circumstances but that doesn’t take away from his solid two way play. If MIN has competent center men, the offense can be driven through the wings.

Dumba doesn't really have much to do with the Parise/Suter deals. Brodin, Zucc, and Spurgeon are all paid the same or higher and have longer term. Unless they can dump Spurgeon before Dumba is due to re-sign he'll be gone. If one of Belpedio, Mennell, or Addison turns into be a 2nd pair RD, one of Spurgeon/Dumba has to go anyways.

I'd rather sign Danualt or Barkov (pipedream) as a UFA than trade Dumba for Dvorak without a big plus coming back also.

My bad, the reference to the Parise/Suter deals is that those guys are gonna take big cap hits with (presumably) little to no production. That means any value you can eek out of a contract is primo. I don’t think Dumba will be resigned even if he stays with the Wild and Dvorak makes 1.5 less and is 2 years younger.

I like Danault too but Dvorak is 4 years younger and would be substantially cheaper for a similar player. We won’t have the cap for Barkov with Dumba on the roster and even if we got him we would be forced to move out younger players when their ELCs expire. I’m just thinking entirely from a cap perspective here so it’s not like it’s the only thing to consider.

End of the day, I think we are on the same page.

Rask, Bonino, MarJo, Bjugstad, Pateryn, $2m player to SEA will all be off the books in a year or two. Foligno and Hartman could be gone too. I'm not too worried about the cap even with Dumba and add an extra $6m UFA center.

Dumba makes a big hole in the d-corps. The guys behind him are still unknowns at the NHL level. Soucy can fill some of that, but he could be taken by SEA just as easily as Greenway.

I've watched a significant amount of Coyotes hockey the last few years. He's an adequate 2C if your team has a real 1C ahead of him. If you take a team like Colorado with a true 1C and true 2C, he's not playing above Kadri.

Dvorak is pretty good, but he's a middle6 centre. Compare his career per60 numbers to Colin White, who is also pretty good but also a middle6 centre.
