Created by: Random2152
Team: 2021-22 Custom Team
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 30, 2020
Published: Dec. 30, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Tried to do this as best I can. Any thoughts here? Need help on other teams protected lists (ex: had to make a judgement call for COL) and how desperate they are to lose a contract.

ANH: Take Kesler for leaving Guhle open and a 2021 2nd
BUF: 2021 1st for Okposo (Assuming its not top 5)
CGY: 2021 1st for Lucic + Kylington
EDM: 2021 1st for Neal + Kahun
MTL: 2021 3rd for Byron
PHI: 2021 2nd for JVR
TBL: 2021 1st for Tyler Johnson
VAN: 2021 1st + 2021 3rd for Roussel and Eriksson
WSH: 2021 1st + 2022 2nd + 2021 3rd for TJ Oshie

Total Picks
2021: 11 in first 3 rounds
Round 1 (7 picks): SEA(1-6), BUF (6-10), VAN (12-20), CGY (15-22), EDM (15-22), WSH (20-32), TBL (25-32)
Round 2 (2 picks): SEA (33-39), ANH (33-45)
Round 3 (2 picks): SEA (65-71), MTL (75-90)

2022
Round 2: WSH (?)

Roster is built as best I can (there would obviously be FA and trades and such but still)
Taxi squad is the minors.

Neal is bought out (costs just under 2 aav iirc)

I'm hoping they'll be able (and more importantly willing) to dump Zaitsev to Seattle for picks/prospects.

Also I can't imagine Anaheim wanting to give up anything to move one year of Kesler's deal, which is insured and LTIR bound. Especially given how badly that worked out for them last time round.

Seattle is heavy on Analytics. That contract is so bad and for so long I doubt they'd be interested. Even if they were it would cost a fortune (FAR more than you would or probably should pay)

**** it why not. Who ever wins lets keep it reasonable though.
And just to be clear so we know, its until the end of the 2021-22 season cup is awarded.

Ya, a reasonable avatar. Like I said, it must be compliant with CF rules so nothing to out there. You've got yourself a bet.

The thinking that a team would pay a 1st, 2nd and 3rd to move a 30 goal scorer, regardless of how bad his underlying numbers are, is just out of this world.

I just want to make sure you understand that the bet is any comp, not just what I have in the desc of this AGM.
Also, Tyler Johnson had 30 goals a year ago and he will require comp. I like this bet for me smile (low key the caps need some space)

Johnson will only require comp because of the assets Tampa would leave exposed. As just a matter of cap space, Tampa wasn't willing to part with a 1st to move him this offseason.

While Seattle has been sold as a big analytics team, which I have my doubts on mind you as they've only really hired 2 analytics names, they are also a new hockey team in a new market and they need the good PR hometown picks will bring to sell to their potential fans. You'll notice Vegas used a pick to take an upcoming UFA because he was from Vegas.

As I said, I think my logic is better but we will see. Good luck! See you in a 7 months or whatever!

Pretty unlikely Ottawa loses Brown. He'll either be protected, or if he hasn't locked up a spot by the end of the season, he'll have already been traded. I'm hoping they'll be able (and more importantly willing) to dump Zaitsev to Seattle for picks/prospects.

Zaitsev is a replacement level player with the same deal as Tyler Johnson. He would need multiple 1st to be moved. Its the worst contract in the NHL. There is no way he can be moved unless bad money comes back

They lose one of Bean, Fleury unless they re willing to let Dougie Hamilton walk which would be a big mistake

Trocheck, Hamilton, Pesce, Slavin, Aho, Turbo, Staal, Svech, Alex N. will be protected.

Yup. Fleury. Unless Trochek has a bounce back year. Quality young centers hard to come by in expansion draft.

I had Seattle getting 5 1st round picks but how I got there is different.
One was Ladd. Who NYR will move out.
The other was CAR to protect players. I'm picturing that as a late round 1st and what they will lose is worth more than a late round 1st.
I don't have Seattle taking Oshie either. That contract is to bad to touch. It's not worth it. They will get 1st on contracts that end in like 2-3 years.

I don't think NYI can move Ladd out unless Seattle wants to buy him out. Had TJ Oshie originally as well but it's quite the favour from the Kraken and they'll have a few locals to choose from like Tyler Johnson, Derek Ryan. No need for Oshie as its doubtful the Caps give comp. Nugent Hopkins looks like a good possibility as the Oilers dont seem to be willing to pay him his asking price as a UFA while Seattle would have the need and cash to pay the Nuge up the middle.

They aren’t taking Kevleniks from Columbus. He’s nothing more than a backup goalie.... Nyquist, Jenner, or Kukan would be a much better and much more likely candidate from Columbus.

You can't seriously think MIN are protecting Dumba when all indications say they wont. Look at who that will leave exposed.
And don't have a freakout when your vague response with no backing logic is called out. I want feedback, saying "this is bad use the tool that ignores alot" without reasoning why is not feedback.

Curious what indications you're referring to because for someone who pays attention to them, it sure looks like they'll go the 8 skater route with Parise, Zucc, Fiala, Erickson Ek, Suter, Surgeon, Brodin, Dumba , and Kahkonen with them exposing Greenway, Rask, Soucy, and Talbot. Obviously a lot can happen between now and the draft.

I've heard that they are exploring trading Dumba because they don't want to protect him.

Recent credible source? They were definitely looking at moving him around the draft, but that seemed to be more about trying to find a top 6 center for this season from what Michael Russo was reporting. I think their roster is pretty well setup to allow them to protect him without anything major being lost.

Last I heard was around the draft and credible but I heard at the same time it was partially motivated bc they wanted to not protect him

There was speculation, but I don't recall anyone like Russo saying it had to do with it expansion draft though it is possible I guess. Either way, they're not in a position to worry about the expansion draft anymore. Guessing Seattle takes Greenway because he does have a lot of upside if he can figure out how to be a power forward every night.
