Although I'm not a fan of Hamilton and his contract, why does Calgary make this trade.? Two years of JVR for five years Hamilton doesn't seem to a deal that the Flames would want. Of all the teams that don't need a Dman is Minni, and you traded Hunwick to them. Andrew Campbell is career AHLer for a reason, he doesn't have the NHL talents. The Leafs have four minor league goalies and why add a fifth?.....especially one of the two top Dman prospects . Laich, Michalek back in the NHL? Awful.

Well it's reported that the Flames have too much money tied up in their D and are looking for forward help, JVR is great value at his current cost. The Hunwick and Polak trades are representative of shipping each player wherever for a draft pick and Campbell, Laich and Michalek would be place holders after deadline until end of season. I don't see what minor league goalie you're talking about??

You are right. I got my Subban's mixed up. As a Leaf fan who has seen both Valiev and Subban play AHL defence, IMO Valiev can be an NHLer not Subban. Personally as Leaf fan, I wouldn't touch Hamilton, too much money and too much term for an average Dman who is in the top 20 of NHL paid Dman. (though I seem to be minority with this thinking although it looks like you agree with me) If the Leafs are in playoff contention, I think they would not trade two of regular Dman and make a push for the playoffs. Would be a great experience for the young Leafs and the trade picks are rather insignificant.
