James Neal has spoken a lot about how his shift as a left shot to the right wing dramatically improved his production as a goal scorer. Different shot angles etc. I think it could benefit Tage tremendously.

One thing to notice is that I’m a left-handed shot playing the right wing here. That might seem like a small thing, but it’s actually a huge deal. I started my career as a left winger, so I was always receiving passes with the puck outside my body, away from the net. If you’re a playmaker, you might prefer this. I didn’t know how big of a difference this made until I got traded to Pittsburgh. Dan Bylsma walked in the first day and asked, “Hey, do you think you could play right wing?”

I’m like, “Uh, well I’ve never played it before, so I’m not sure?”

He says, “Okay great, you’re playing right wing.”

Once I got used to it, I really elevated my game, because whenever I shot the puck on my forehand, the release point was closer to the net. I was a threat at all times, especially on one-timers. I ended up scoring 40 goals the next season. So whenever a guy switches wings, it has a lot of implications for how he plays. (Thanks, Dan. You were one of the best teachers I’ve ever had.)

I like the off wing idea for shooters. Evander kane should have been a right wing, i cant count the number of times i watched him wire a shot around the boards because he missed the net, and that was the angle he had as a left shot lw. Im sure there are hockey guys that will tell you puck retrieval is much much harder on your off hand side, but the shooting should still be much better. Look at power plays with guys on the half wall, think of ovechkin as a right shot on the left, which eichel pretty much does too.

But Tage is notorious for not getting his shot off quickly
Putting him on his off wing brings the puck closer to the defender/defense in general & will likely result in even more blocked shots & off target shots
Tage has barely even shown to be good at RW-
and that was in the AHL

Not saying a switch to LW won’t work,
but just bc a good vet like Neal could do it doesn’t mean Tage can
And he won’t have Malkin or Crosby down the center of the ice to occupy defenses & give him the extra time Neal had to shoot the puck
He’s gonna likely be with Eakin, MAYBE Staal
Neither of them will command the respect that Malkin/Crosby did

I’d start Tage at RW where he’s had some success recently
If it doesn’t work (AGAIN), send him down to the AHL & let him get comfortable at LW and see what happens then

Not much
And not where he was good

Playing sh!tty at LW isn’t the kind of experience i care at all about
So even if he played there a lot (he didn’t),
it still wouldn’t matter

*do u have any kind of links to show he played LW?
